Tesla comes to India, sets up office in Bengaluru
BENGALURU: Ending speculations of whether or not it would come to India and where in the country, Elon Musk's Tesla has set up its office in Bengaluru, even as details of what the company plans to do in India remains elusive.
The company, data TOI accessed from the Registrar of Companies (RoC) shows has registered in the name of Tesla India Motors and Energy Private Limited at an address on Lavelle Road in Bengaluru's Central Business District (CBD). The registration was done on January 8.
While Union transport minister Nitin Gadkari said late last month that Tesla would start selling cars in 2021, officials and ministers in Karnataka have been speaking of an R&D centre.
Karnatake chief minister BS Yediyurappa wrote on Twitter: "Karnataka will lead India's journey towards Green Mobility. Electric Vehicle Manufacturer Tesla will soon start its operations in India with an R&D unit in Bengaluru. I welcome @elonmusk to India & Karnataka and wish him all the very best."
Karnataka industries minister Jagadish Shettar told TOI on Tuesday: "While the firm has now registered, there is still no clarity on what they would do here. This is the first step and our officials led by the principal secretary are in constant dialogue with the firm. The go nment is prepared to extend all kinds of support to the firm."
Nice... now improve the Road infrastructure to support these high tech cars
Tesla in Bengaluru roads is a big joke...bad roads, no parking space and regulation!
EV is the future. How long we will be burning fossil fuel and making useless Arabs more and more rich?
Excellant move , we need more brands to come to india for our growth
Throw them out! Dont they know that we are going to become Aatmanirbhar?
Tesla should be asked to create production facility in India like it did in China to sell cars in India. If not, it will import cars from China which is not welcome..!!
Tesla should try and make models specifically designed to meet the demands of Indian customers. They should also try and reduce the price of cars so that most people can afford them. Under the leadership of pm Modi, India can become the EV capital of the world. Let's hope that one day an Indian company will become the largest EV manufacturer of the world.
Whether Tesla comes or not, the question is will it be affordable for the masses. The entry level model Tesla Model 3 costs typically INR 2 Crores in Singapore. So it would be obvious that here in India it would cost even more. At this price point you also get many luxurious and ultra luxurious brands that are far more prestigious and status symbols.

Tesla came to China in 2019. The Shanghai Giga factory—Tesla's first production facility located outside the U.S.—kicked off production in October 2019 and delivered its first made-in-China Tesla cars, the Model 3 series, to Chinese customers last December.
Already one sees its effect on tata motors share...
Tesla should think of inventing flying cars to beat India's traffic and road conditions.
Tesla arrived, but where are roads in india?
As long as state officials did not harass Tesla officials demanding bribe and other favour, Tesla will stay longer in Bengaluru.
i think their main market is delhi and mumbai, looks a failed move by Tesla putting office in banglore
why in Bangalore why not in Gujarat
if it were to be Gujrat ,you will ask Why Gujrat, why not Bangalore
