原文标题：Olympic Badminton Controversy: 8 Women's Doubles Players Disqualified For Throwing Matches
Of COURSE they will appeal! This is only the THIRD time in this Olympics that asian teams have appealled ANY decision that went against them! And that doesn't even count the still questionable performance by swimmer Ye. What are they DRINKING over there?
cheating is cheating no matter what! they threw their match so they would have an easier match later on. if the are not willing to give 100% effort they have no business even being there
LOL "Badminton" is a sissy's game played when you are a child!
THERE IS NO SPORT in it at all!!.
If there is a strong incentive to lose a game, then there must be a serious error in the competition format. The governing body has punished the competitors for drawing attention to their own inadequacies.
Too bad China doesn't EVER seem to care about doing things the right way, the fair way.
If a chess player sacrifices a rook or queen to gain position on the board and possible victory in the game, is that considered cheating? The goal here was to medal, and they had their eyes on that prize.
I don't think the first Korean pair (the one against Chinese pair) deserve a disqualification. They're just confused and influenced by the Chinese's play-style.
It's an natural instinct of an athlete not to give what the opponent's wish. Those Chinese pair purposely kept making mistakes and expected to lose the match. Then the Korean opponent were just confused and influenced, and their natural-instinct told them not to give the defeat easily.
They are just young players who're get confused. I feel sorry for them.
Ahhh badminton. Such a grueling endeavor. My shock at the match throwing scandal, is only exceeded by my astonishment at finding out that badminton is considered an Olympic caliber sport.
What's next? Beer pong, or lawn darts?
The Chinese would have a lot fewer gold medals if the Olympics didn't include so many sports that college students play in their spare time.
That is awful. Bravo to the Olympic committee for disqualifying them. But a round-robin tournament has no place in the Olympics.
And how many medals have they won using this technique already?
I guess we can add Rock paper siscors and guess a number im thinking to the Olympic sports
How is this even a sport???????????????????????????????? SERIOUSLY???????
Because billions of people play this sport, more than football, more than basketball. Way more than tennis.
I hate to say this as an American. The truth is: many Americans are saying this because of sour grapes --- this is one of the few Olympic events in which the U.S.A. has never earned a medal in.
Sentiments for fencing was pretty bad for a while, until we earned the first medal. Now sentiments changed A LOT.
Billions of people play chess also, that doesn't make it an Olympic spor
China plays dirty, they will do whatever they can to get a medal, weather its throwing matches, using under aged kids or doping, its good to see someone finally hold them accountable for their actions.
Hey! They act just like Republicans do here !
The Pubs deliberately hurt America so they can win an election.
I'm glad these girls were expelled, but why weren't their coaches also expelled, who told them to do this?
It's time to cut back on some of the 'sports' in competition at the Olympic games. Badminton, dressage, synchronized swimming, race walking. They already had the good sense to drop croquet, polo and tug-of-war.
Been following this insane story since yesterday. Glad they got booted and hope they can never participate in the olympics again. Also, badmidon an olympic sport? Are checkers next?
They will all be executed when they get home
People from that part of the World are very competitive and use all kinds of ways to reach their goal!
The idea is to win the gold,so they get punished for useing a strategic move, shame on the olypic committee,--set the rules so that wont happen ,dont blame the players.reinstate the players immediately-----badminton,as an olympic sport is a laugh in itself, how about checkers or fish, what a no brainer
Surprise! Surprise! Who would have thought? China cheats! Last Olympiad they had underage atheletes and now they are throwing matches and swimmers are on roids of some sort. I guess someone had to take over for E.Germany and the USSR.
Badminton is an Olympic sport?
If Tennis can be an Olympic sport then why not Badminton?
Are they paying these players off in money to "throw the match"? And BTW--Badminton? What the? When did this become a "sport"? It's getting totally riduculous on the catagories that they have now. Badminton is not a sport.. it's a game. Maybe they can add tiddley winks or dominos to the venue next.
China is taking the fun out of the Olympics. They are making it feel like it's all business and serious. Couldn't they have just enjoyed the fact that they were at the Olympics and played beautifully? I was watching their diving team yesterday who gave an amazing performance. Once they won gold they just walked over picked up their stuff and left, no emotion, nothing. The Mexicans and Canadians were laughing/crying/hugging. It's like c'mon lighten up you got to the Olympics and it would be nice to see their emotional families supporting them.
Interesting strategy. I wonder if something like this happens in other events.
They do. As recent as this morning's football match between Japan and Honduras.
Publicity much? I mean come on, badminton, is it? Really? Who cares?
Koreans and Chinese again? Winning is everything at any cost? And the Indonesians complained that they only did it because the Chinese did it and was not caught? Really?
And that Chinese girl Ye, after she was challenged for matching Michael Phelps's speed and accused of doping, she slowed down last night and only won by a smidge.
As Chinese said, "If you don't want someone to know it, don't do it."
Other countries do it too, so don't be naive. Just this morning men's football Japan and Honduras were wasting time after tie (0-0), neither attacking nor defending, in order to go to the semi-final. Why don't they expel the football players for violating the same rules? Double standard!
This is what happens when you introduce a non-sport like badminton into an athletic sporting event. What's next, prancing horses? Oh, wait, that's...oh, never mind.
how do you figure that Badminto is not a sport? it's a very physically demanding sport..... which i doubt you could last even one set...but then again there are idiots out there who feel that a recreational activity like golf is a sport...
Badminton is an Olympic sport?
And there was a crowd?
Shameful. Can't do the time don't do the crime. Not surprised that China was involved in this. South Korea I am surprised. Would have expected North Korea.
At least Koreans and Indonesians appealed. China just said they respect IOC and agreed. Shame. It's like selling their own children for saving face.
