Simple - disqualify all cheats from the competition.

Why aren't they allowed to forfeit a match. It seems stupid to ask them to play hard, when they have an interest in loosing. The system needs to be fixed so that they always have an interest to win, otherwise it will always be a charade, a better one, or a lousy one.
I really do not think the players are at fault here, the system is wrong.

it is only a real problem when both would like to forfeit. It is easy to lose to a team that is trying to win.

All of the players from other countries should also refuse to play any Chinese players. See how far that would get China then!

The really interesting thing is that all the Chinese badminton players can swim the 200 m butterfly in 1 min 45 seconds. . . .

Why? They're there to win medals, not entertain spectators.

The rules are wrong not the players. It might not be much fun for the spectators but tactical play is not cheating.........

Players should not know what their match result leads to, otherwise there will always be manipulation attempts to avoid the better teams. It's just tactics.
Afterall, I'm sure there's nothing in the rule books about trying your hardest.

That's the difference between amateurs and professionals. Professionals know how to throw a match and make it look good. #OlympicSpirit

All 4 teams should be thrown out! Simples!

Usually, people who say "simples" are idiots. You fit the pattern.

The problem is the rules of the competition conflict with the objectives. Don't blame the players.
in the 1948 Olympics, rowers Bushnell and Burnell 'lost' their first round in order to avoid meeting the danish crew in the semis and thus improve their chances. How different is that to the badminton players?
It was 64 years ago. And yes it was probably deemed a dubious tactic at the time.
Past misdeeds do not justify or condone current misdeeds.

Surely, the way to stop this is to limit the numbers of participants? Why are Nations allowed to put more than one pair in the Doubles? The best pair in China should play against the best pair from South Korea, etc.
Unfortunately the Chinese team and their coaches (and quite a few others by the look of it) don't consider the manipulation of the result of a game in order to try and get both their teams in the final, cheating. And with that kind of philosophy, anything is possible.
Asians conspiring to throw games in order to help betting cartels?
Perish the thought!
And the Chinese wonder why there is so much suspicion over their 'wonder-woman' swimmer?
Because the Western propaganda?
No. Because she's 16. Because it was an extraordinary improvement. And because the Chinese have form for doping in swimming within recent history.
well that's an eastern point of view......
I don't see how they were "cheating" . Both teams were playing to get the result for themselves which would give them the best chance of progressing to win a medal in the competition. It's called tactics.
If they don't want this sort of situation to happen, then the organisers need to change to format of the qualification stages.
It may be that the format needs to be changed, and it may also be that 'cheating' is not the best word to describe what happened. However, the point remains that what they did is in contravention of both the spirit and rules of the games.
Yes, they should be disqualified.
The obvious thing to do is to disqualify all of the competitors in the Women's Doubles and refuse to hand out any medals at all.
After that there has to be a serious discussion about the number of silly "sports" that are allowed in the Olympic Games.
We need to get back to the days when the Games were about track and field events - not daft novelty activities like beach volleyball and the like.
The big laugh is the way the chinese staff manage to look surprised at what their team have done. Gold for acting ability I guess. Anyone who believes that the chinese players did NOT act on orders is living in a pre-industrial dreamworld.
Sounds hilarious and quite entertaining!
Wish I was there to watch the spectacle....can we see it again on iplayer?
Well, in that case the Olympics committee should allow ONLY one team from each country to compete. PERIOD. Otherwise, you can't accuse two strong teams from a country devouring each other and allow other countries to have the advantage. That would be telling them to be dumb.
