原文标题:China's C919 to take on Airbus, Boeing

Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China is set to take on world's biggest airline manufacturers Airbus and Boeing Co.

A full-size prototype of the China-made large passenger aircraft C919, the country's first home-grown large commercial airliner, was unveiled at the Zhuahai Air Show 2010.

The Chinese's company has already won orders for 100 C919 aircraft. Air China, China Eastern Airlines, China Southern Airlines, Hainan Airlines, CDB Leasing and the US-based GECAS have placed the order for the aircraft.

It has a designed capacity of 168 seats for the full economy class version and 156 seats for mixed-class version.

It is planned that C919 will make its maiden flight in 2014 and be delivered in 2016 after getting the airworthiness certification.

C919 is set to make a dent in the sales of Boeing's 737 and Airbus's A320.

Profits from China's booming aviation industry, which includes airlines and airports, soared 363.5 per cent from a year earlier to $952 million in July.

Air Show China highlights China's prowess in the growing aerospace industry. Since 1996, the show has been held in Zhuhai in every even-number year.

A multi-use amphibious aircraft, HO 300, that can land on both land and water, including lakes, reservoirs and seas, developed by the General Aircraft Co, is also on display.

Airbus A380 has received over 200 orders for its aircraft so far.

Airbus and Boeing rule the global market for large commercial jets. Between 2000 and 2009 Airbus received 6,452 orders, while Boeing received 5,927.

It is better to go and settle in China than India
by Merwyn Mendonca (View MyPage) on Jul 08, 2011 03:47 PMWow! what amazing plane. New big plane, speed trains, best infrastructure. Good people. Everything is in favour of China. In India there are no toilets. Roads are toilets. No no I dont want to discuss anything more. Its better to settle in China.

Amazing what confidence can do. The beleived they can take on Airbus and Boeing and most probably will. India's industrialists are confident but the economic environment provided by the politicians are lousy. Hopefully the experimental planes like saras and now the tejas will translate into commercial successes in future. Think success and we will be successful.

by kristalsoldier (View MyPage) on Nov 25, 2010 06:15 PM
It's not simply confidence. In India one problem is that competing agancies would prefer to have a condition of stasis rather than co-operation. In China, often, if there is reistance from any of their labs, their political authorities can iron out differences. One other advantage that the Chinese have is that they are able to spend loads of cash without really being accountable to anyone.

But yes, it is a shame for till about the 1980s, India had a technological leads of sort over the Chinese, but now, of course, it is a different story!

am sure they will have large market soon..but amazing they have gone into planes before capturing worldwide car market.

We can trust and fly Chinese C 919 only if its Aero Engines come from the stable of GE or Rolls Royce and not from its own manufacturing facilities. Not withstanding the above truth, Hearty Congrats to Chinkies as they have proved
themselves with actions unlike us,who are only fit enough to mouth slogans.

china bashing. That's all. And nothing else. China really enjoy bashing by some indians and west. One thing is sure: China does NOT care about bashing simply because it is meaningless and fruitless. China has moved ahead, is the second largest economy in the world and likely to overcome USA very soon. This is the truth. One should face the truth, which is always bitter in taste and undigestible.

Chinese have a very rich history. They are very talented, innovative and quite capable of building a very competitive passenger aircraft and give Boeing and Airbus a run for their money! The copying/shoddy allegations were leveled at Toyota and Honda in the 1960!

one of the charecteristic of fuedalism is that the fuedal lords are satisfied with their higher status in the society in comparison to his serfs, his dependents, and the rest of the society. and they prefer status quo. they want lesser or no disturbance to their health, wealth and premier position as leaders.

democracy should change such attitude and perception. but it does not in India. one set of leaders are replaced with others in elections or continue to rule. just like the actors change but the script remains the same. why is it so?

becausthey get elected on the basis of the readily availble 'off the shelf support from their caste, community, ethnicity, linguistic affinity, etc," that provides the sustenance and strength to exist and succeed in politics.

all their dream, visualisation, objective, hunger for success pertains to his own self and or his supporters and not the nation.the ever increasing urban slums, the malnutrition of the children, the slow growth of education without objective, lack of employment opportunities, the relative position of India in HDI does not affect him.

and I doubt whether, attempts of China a country that sailed in almost the same circumstances as India as recently as 1980s, to make large passenger aircraft C919 will make him think!

distributing dhoti, sarees, TV are passe. next will be free distribution imported Levis Jeans to all the citizens. NDA and UPA will change shifts and the play c

Though I myself don't subscribe to Chinese products, would like to mention here that not all chinese products are inferior in quality. They are much advanced partially due to the totalitarian regime they have.

Mi-17 crashed in Arunachal Pradesh - why is rediff not reporting this news!!??

It is said that Mi-17 crashed due to an onboard explosion and all 12 Airforce personnel died. You don't need to be a rocket scientist to guess what could have happened. After shooting down an AWAC of the IAF last year, the Chinese must have shot this one too in Arunachal Pradesh because they know we are mere puppets and India has no balls to counter attack them.

Right way to spend money - innovate and manufacture
by iron.mask@rediffmail.com (View MyPage) on Nov 19, 2010 09:54 AM | Hide replies

China knows how to make progress. Isn't this what we all had wanted to see happen in India as well? Its sad that the so-called elected leaders do not have the vision that mere individuals in the country have. So much for democratic process, fools on top leading the way to a bright future for India. We got to be super lucky.

But we got to thank the Chinese. Now there in a knee-jerk reaction an effort will be launched to copy what the Chinese did. We should be thankful to China for that. What we can't force our leaders to do, they can. I just hope they pick a sane guy to lead the effort.

Re: Right way to spend money - innovate and manufacture
by iron.mask@rediffmail.com (View MyPage) on Nov 19, 2010 09:59 AM
And of course we will have some communist fools opposing such efforts. And some other vote mongers wanting to spend more in the money-sucking-but-of-no-use schemes like NREGS

True growth can only be achieved through industrial growth. If we make a sincere effort towards the same, we can swiftly lift the country out of poverty. Instead of that, we have short-term-benefit schemes like NREGS which are draining the wealth of the country.

Re: Right way to spend money - innovate and manufacture
by Hoodibaba (View MyPage) on Nov 19, 2010 12:39 PM
Your point boils down to the following question:

How much of individual freedom are we prepared to sacrifice for country's development?

Mind you it is country's development and not Nation's development. China is not a welfare state. The demand for growth is minimum ten percent year on year to maintain peace without riots.

China's model is not sustainable development as proven in history in many countries

a small step, good, but a lot more to go.
by ratheesh raman (View MyPage) on Nov 19, 2010 07:20 AM

A really ambitious effort from China. They made cheap china brand now they want to showcase that the cheap brand can have some high end things as commercial liner. If it clicks it can get the trust of the world as cheap and good quality.

Possible for china since the major companies are government ones and they will order it any way...so by the end of decade or so international companies will opt for. But too early to pronounce 'competition to boeing or Airbus'. They are players from some 70-80 years with lot of experience. Cutting down production cost for Boeing/airbus is easier than China making a great realiable aircraft and marketing it.

But i think it is a good effort by chinese. Instead of envying Indians should grab the opportunity to build contract liners for Boeing and airbus which will have both the company supervised quality and cheap tag from India. Like in cars we should have a strict quality control regime in place.
