原文标题：We CAN block Facebook, Google like China: Delhi HC
The Delhi high court on Thursday warned social networking site Facebook India and search engine Google India that websites can be “blocked” like in China if they fail to devise a mechanism to check and remove objectionable material from their web pages.
“Like China, we will block all such websites,” Justice Suresh Kait said while asking counsel for Facebook and Google India to develop a mechanism to keep a check and remove “offensive and objectionable” material from their web pages.
Justice Kait, who did not stay the proceedings against the two websites before magistrate’s court, however agreed with the plea of lawyers that they would not press for an effective hearing in the trial court on Friday.
Former Additional Solicitor General Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for Google India, said the postings of “obscene, objectionable and defamatory” articles and other things cannot be “filtered” or “monitored”.
“No human interference is possible, and moreover, it can’t be feasible to check such incidents. Billions of people across the globe, post their articles on the website. Yes, they may be defamatory, obscene but cannot be checked,” he said.
Rohatgi tried to distinguish between Google India and its United States-based holding company Google Inc. “The US-based Google Inc is the service provider and not me (Google India) and hence, we are not liable for the action of my holding company. Moreover, it is criminal case where a vicarious liability can be fastened on a company which has no role, whatsoever, in the alleged offence.”

It is true that some offensive and objectionable material are being posted sometime in facebook but there is tools to complain for them and google is doing great job for no need to explain, justice Suresh might be connected to corrupt politicians or he is corrupted and he is in scared of facebook’s popularity as how people are disclosing their view against corruption. Mr. Kait why don’t see other thing in India like road construction of several places are completed in paper but not in reality? there several matter which aam janta can see u can’t. do you have different eye.

Justice Suresh Kait you are a moron with complete lack of regard for the most important of laws – Freedom of Expression.
For one thing does this man even know about the inflammatory bile that is written on these Rediff comment pages? I put up with it because i believe in the right of every person to express himself. What about you?
This is unacceptable

Facebook has a option where you can complain about a profile or content which is what govt. is doing.
With this logic shall we ban the entire UPA govt. just because some people are corrupt ?
I hope good sense prevails on these people, such decisions are dangerous for democracy.

by Mr Walker (View MyPage) on Jan 13, 2012 08:50 AM
Ideally if the govt. is so obsessed with the derogatory content then it should be putting up a team to mark such offensive content and ask the sites to remove it, blanket filtering is dumb.
If NDA had said the same thing the entire media would be up in arms against them and blame them of right wing fascist policies so what is this now ?

Can India and China be at par in terms of freedom of expression

Freedom of expression as given in our constitution cannot be compared with that in China. How can therefore a similar ban as in China be applied her?

For all such crrraaap activities, Indian judiciary & govt want to take example of China. But when it comes to defense & military, they keep mum. It seems to be a case of selective adsorption!

So now China is our role model.
HC is telling us that they can not punish corrupt polititians, terrorists adn extremist due to lack of evidence or lack of will but they are very much capable to take away freedom of expression of people of India. In highly conservative indina society where people are scared to express theri thought due to fear of backlash from political goons and minority extremist, social networking website provided a vent. But now even that is going to be taken away.Kudos!!!kudos to Indian feudal society clocked in democracy.this system is (CBI,beurocracy,HC,police)has been completely hijacked by dynasty politians. Now they are going to use it to supress citizens of India. Great!!!
With this development Maoist are making sense to me now.

In alphabet, C comes before D. One has to cross C to reach D. Corruption is the major stumbing block ahead of benefits of Democracy. We can add more C words like Crime, Cronyism etc in this list. Now Court is also coming as another player.

by Prem Mohan (View MyPage) on Jan 12, 2012 07:52 PM | Hide replies
Why block them? They should be removed altogether. India should fila a case in the International Court of Justice for this purpose. Google, Facebook etc. are a sheer waste of time.
