象头神

BEIJING: China’s tattoo artists are inscribing pictures of Hindu god Ganesha as the fashion for tattooing the entire body is spreading fast in the country. Reflecting this trend, Beijing-based Global Times daily carried a picture of Ganesha inked on the back of a tattoo enthusiast.

The booming trade has spawned several popular tattooing subjects like pictures of celestial beauties, dragons and snakes, tiger face and faces of lovers of tattoo wearers. But the use of Ganesha in the atheist country suggests increasing interests in Hinduism among youth, observers said.

There are nearly 300,000 tattoo shops in China with over 2,000 of them being in Beijing alone, according to Fu Hailin, director-general of the China Association of Tattoo Artists. “But I can say that 90% or more are not qualified,” the paper quoted Fu as saying.

Tattooing, which had been banned over the past decades, is now being allowed with the ministry of human resources and social security and the China Hairdressing & Beauty Association issuing work permits to the artists since last month. Candidates need to pass an examination to test their knowledge concerning health and sterilization to obtain a permit.

“Tattoos are no longer the taboo they once were in China” the paper said. But there is widespread fear about transmission of disease due to unsanitary conditions and disputes caused by a lack of recognition or regulation of the trade, the paper said, citing experts.

“Before, most customers were young and self-centered with a strong personality. But now, as the stereotypes fade away, more well-educated people come to us,” Fu said.

He believes in good luck and fortune for all, He removes all obstacles not just for the rich, He stands up for women’s rights, so yes, he probably is.

DP Bay Area (california) replies to Rory
How ironic ! Here you have Ganesha, a god of Hindus. He is supposed to protect the rights of women as per you. Yet, in India, girls are safe neither inside, nor outside of the womb. May be Ganesha is taking a rather very long siesta.!
Agree (2)Disagree (7)Recommend (0)

It is more of a fashion statement. Chinese believe in dragons and othe such creatures and to have a tattoo of Ganesha dosesn’t mean it has any religious significance to them.
Agree (0)Disagree (1)Recommend (0)

Danny Sharma (Hamilton, Ontario)
Nothing wrong in having a Ganesha tattoo. This news is absurd and is blown out of context, people have been having Ganesha tattoo around the world from long time. In most visited nation of Asia such as Thailand, tatoo of Hindu gods is very common. Hindus believe in spreading love not hatred hence no fatwas.
Agree (4)Disagree (1)Recommend (0)

DP Bay Area (california)
It is just a fashion statement. Most non Hindus. who have these tattoos don’t even know anything about Ganesha. It just looks cool to have it.
Agree (2)Disagree (4)Recommend (0)

so this is the Hindu’s culture that we do not protest and encourage people to ink our God’s Tatto. but if same happens in other religion they would have taken action against. Later if someone give hate speech on God, thats too late to show your anger.
Agree (4)Disagree (1)Recommend (3)

I had been to China, while walking in the streets of Nantong, I have found a lots of road side tatoo shops. It was very amusing to see Ganesha, Shiva, trishul, swastik,Omm etc as a part of their tatoo design. Even while in Thailand also I found the pictures/statues etc of Shiva,Ganesh, Shakti etc. I do not think it is anything with Hinduism or else, but it seems they are fascinated to have with them. Let them enjoy yaar, why scream/shout/wail/laments ……….????????
Agree (12)Disagree (1)Recommend (0)

Gongati Reddy (USA)
people want tattoos on their body for fashion and fun …not because they have a particular opinion or passion about our religion….we always feel proud and dance around when there is some thing Indian that is taken up by others….there is nothing to be happy about that….tomorrow they will have those tattoos on unacceptable parts of body….then we will start crying around……
Agree (19)Disagree (0)Recommend (2)
