UPA had to take this decision in a hurry as their election prospects are becoming dim. The loss due to this will not be visible immediately. UPA-3 and UPA-4 will complete by the time people can realize what went wrong. It will be convenient for consumers to shop everything at one place, but the profits will flow out of the country. One has to understand how China benefited at the cost of US local businesses and economy.

FDI in power , Infra projects is good ....FDI in retail is dangerous as it will create unemployment and govt has no plans to stop that from happening . A shop in front of Wall mart wont close but it will see drop in sale and if that shop had 5 helpers now it will have 2 .... this is a dangerous prospect.

Bad decision. The question is what the foreign retailer can bring that the existing ones cant . If you are employed that, chances are they will treat you like slaves and inculcate their rubbish culture. They will intend to brainwash us to ensure we forget our culture and family values which is keeping us and giving us happiness. DONT WANT ANYMORE PHOREN CULTURE. BEEN THERE SEEN IT AND TELL U WHAT "MERA BHARAT MAHAN".

UPA should understand the consequences of allowing the FDIs.
Agree (4)Disagree (13)Recommend (2)
In this political climate, no FDI is going to come, even if allowed. Second, it is not right for the government to pass the FDI when a significant population of the country is protesting against it.

Shame on those who are fearmongering. India is not so weak that foreign investment will destroy it. Come out of your 1947 mentallity. For godsake don't compare foreign investment with East India Company World has changed. Open your eyes and look around. Tiny countries like South korea, Taiwan, Singapore etc are still alive and very rich inspite of more than 80% FDI. How can a market like India which is the world largest consumer market in the world after china, be destroyed because of FDI.?? Ask urself If you put a glass of water in Indian ocean will that affect the entire ocean?? Stop fearmongering. India is a mature economy not an infant

I don't understand why Modi is against FDI. He was the person who brought Chinese giant company Huawei to Gujarat... that is nothing but FDI. It is just politics and nothing else. Modi knows very well why FDI is important.

As someone said earlier, we need to modernize retail industry but NOT to hand this over to western companies blindly. who knows?...we may see some FDI scam 4-6 years from now. God only can save India from the current government.

Kangress is openly selling India and we the people can't do anything except watching. Even though i have been in US for quite some time, I hate Walmart and its product. Probably 95% of their products are sourced from some cheap chinese factories. It is just like the big bazaar of India.

all those who are shouting in favour of FDI ,first do some research on this matter ,FDI will only favour country like china ,korea because giants like walmart will buy the products only from the countries which will provide them at cheap rates and sell it in india at lower price ,indian shopkeepers will be destroyed because they will not be able to compete with them .farmers will also have to sell their products at low cost .in some time whole country will be dependent on china and america .indian economy is growing because it is a self driven economy .most of the production in india is used up in country itself ,but by exposing country to FDI ,first we will see decrease in price ,but with the time they will destroy all the local small business ,then they will have a monopoly and buy products from farmers at lower price and sell to people at the higher price then we will have no option other than buying .only two countries america and china will be benefited at the expense of india..FDI is sweet poison .people in america also do protest against walmart on daily basis .manmohan singh is a good economist but this is not his decision but sonia's decision who got kickbacks from foreign giants.

These BJP supporters who call Manmohan Singh with names such as Puppy, Puppet,Poodle, Pet of Italian heroine etc., have no sense of respect for elders. I guess it shows what kind of families they belong to. I guess only an illiterate will use words like that. Eventhough MMS has not been so effective this time around...He is the undisputed architect of the modern Indian economy. He liberalized the indian market in 1992 and hence we saw phenomenal growth for past 20 years. Shame on those BJP goondas for calling him names. Stop defaming him. He was nominated as the best finance minister in the world. So think twice b4 using your disgusting tongue.
