外文标题：Dog sold for $2 million in China: Report
BEIJING: A Tibetan mastiff puppy has been sold at nearly $2 million, which is believed to be the highest price ever paid for a dog in the world.
Mastiffs with their round manes have a resemblance with lions, and have become a status symbol for wealthy dog lovers.
"They have lion's blood and are top-of-the-range mastiff studs," the dog's breeder Zhang Gengyun told the Qianjiang Evening News, while talking about two puppies he sold, including this one. Another red-haired canine had sold for 6 million yuan.
The purchaser is a property developer in eastern China's Zhejiang province, who paid 12 million yuan ($1.94 million). He has promised to raise the puppy himself. The dog is 80cm tall, and weighs 90kg, Zhang said, adding that he was sad to sell the dogs.
"Pure Tibetan mastiffs are very rare, just like our nationally treasured pandas, so the prices are so high," the breeder said.
This sale breaks a 2011 record of a 10 million yuan ($1.5 million) transaction for a red mastiff named Big Splash. It was reportedly sold to a coal baron from the north of China.
Some Chinese believe Tibetan mastiffs are holy animals that bring health and security to their owners. Red and leonine gold mastiffs carry higher prices because they are considered rare breed.
Mastiffs, descendants of dogs used for hunting by nomadic tribes in central Asia and Tibet, are fiercely loyal and protective. They are said to be capable to confronting predators the size of wolves and leopards.
Last year a Chinese zoo was censured by authorities or trying to pass off a Tibetan mastiff as a lion.
Question 1: Is it as pet or dog meat? Question 2: How did this dog got lion's blood? Was there a blood transfusion?

Thank God, for once some animal escaped the bane of chinese medicine. Much of our wildlife is endangered because of chinese medicine.

Great stuff, look at the size, they are huge.
Mastiffs have played one of the biggest role in resembling and retaining Tibetans' Identities.. They are being killed and consumed in China and thats how it has come down to a fewer number so far.
