BEIJING: A Chinese train manufacturing firm today said it has sold 21 rail compartments to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).

CSR Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive, a subsidiary of major Chinese train manufacturer CSR Corporation, has supplied 21 cars to Delhi’s metro rail system, the company said.

The sale marked the company’s second order from India as it had exported 15 metro cars to the Delhi Metro in 2010, state-run Xinhua news agency reported on Saturday.

The locomotive company said the trains would be more energy-efficient and be an industry model in India, which is affected by power shortages.

CSR is the world’s largest manufacturer of electric locomotives and is China’s leading bullet-train maker.

据官方新华社周六报道,这一销售标志着该公司第二次接获来自印度的订单,此前在2010年曾经向德里地铁出口15节地铁车辆。

That’s great work by Chinese company. Why is that but couldn’t these coaches in India. We have Metro from 2001 and we still cant build so much efficient coaches.

So we already have the Chinese supply of Metro trains for Delhi and the PM talks with the recent Tour has borne fruits already Will we soon get more supply of these type ??When we have excess capacity in our ICF BEML etc why import from other Countries our PSUs can generate employments for the youth and also implement latest technology for these productions here and save foreign exchange???

Can’t we make anything other than nuts and bolts. We make rockets, missiles, nuclear weapons and launch sattelites but we don’t make any sophisticated things. A separate ministry is to be created to just drive and develop new technology to avoid dependence on imports.

We should learn by now, that Chinese made products are not built to last. They will work fine for a year or so and then will start having serious problems. They sweep away the competition by offering lower prices. It is only after thing break down, the buyer realizes why those products are cheaper. Undoubtedly, the Delhi Metro will face some serious problems with these rail cars down the road.

Chinese Railway are in Standard Gauge (SG) 1435 mm which is internationally accepted against our isolated Broad Gauge (BG) 1676 mm. So, they have huge market for their Railway products.
