原文标题:India vs China: Battle of the tigers

It is no secret that India and China are in a race to become the biggest Asian, if not global, tiger. Some experts say that given India's democracy, well-established institutions, advantage of English language and technical expertise, India will surpass China's economic might.

Others claim that China is not only way ahead, India's bureaucracy, corruption, infrastructure woes, etc, will make it nearly impossible for India to even catch up with China, let alone surpass it.

Indian always expert in comparing, but still there compare is superficial. Why China is growing so well only people who have knowledge of all field can say.The most priority area of china is Science and Technology. Now this country attain worldwide reputation due to its advancement of Science and technology. World 40-50% contribution in Science international journal comes from China, in patent also number one country in the world. India is still far lag-behind to China. Our govt never think these, increasing of military numbers does not help at all to solve this problem. Quality is essential...............

Re: Its better to know the reality
by Truth BeTold (View MyPage) on Oct 17, 2011 07:59 AM
Your sentiments are right but your facts are wrong, China doesn't contribute 40-50% to the science international journal. China is also not the number one patent holding country in the world.

Electricity consumption in per cent? Doesn't make sense. Other than that, the article is good and is so revealing. India is so far behind and needs to travel long before being counted as a leading nation.

China, and its people, are humble and low-key. They do not boast about their economical achievement. This article comes from a U.S. journal. The aim is to divide both countries and inject fear into the minds of Indian people.
India does not need to emulate any country, it has its own course of development.

Let us not get obsessed with China
by ANANT T on Oct 16, 2011 05:26 PM | Hide replies

It is pointless getting obsessed with China and trying to compete with it. In doing so we become like Pakistan who instead of developing its own self has 'targetted' India and we all know where it has lead Pakistan and Pakistanis now.

Though China is way ahead of India in most fields, this article is not an original one and it shows. For eg., it says power consumption per person in percent which makes no sense. It gives the unit for power consumption in MWhr which is tooooo big a unit to account for power consumption by individuals. Megawatts is the unit in which the capacity of power plants is mentioned. Individual power consumption will be in WATTS!!

In the TWO sectors that I am concerned with, (Software and Shipping) India is way, way ahead of China. Doubtless, there will be other sectors too. This article has chosen to highlight ONLY those sectors in which India is lagging. It makes things appear very bleak for India for reasons best known to the Author. I have had the chance to interact with citizens from various countries the world over and found that they ALL blamed their OWN Govt for all problems... even in so called developed economies like Singapore while praising the 'good work' done by Indian Govt. So, gentlemen, the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. Politicians ALL OVER THE WORLD are corrupt, inefficient and inept. Ask an American about Obama and he will say the same. So let us not get obsessed with China and lets be just ourselves!!

Parameters for comparison
by Don Wann (View MyPage) on Oct 15, 2011 12:26 AM | Hide replies

Some of the parameters for comparison are useless. Cars and Electrical consumption do not make any sense. Infrastructure / food production, services sector contribution in GDP makes more sense.

The point is we should not repeat the mistakes made by Western economies and even China. Indian model of development does not have to copy everything, it needs to learn from other models and definitely avoid the mistakes.

China's GDP $ 5.87 trillion.China's GDP growth rate 9.5%.

India's inflation 8-9%

China's inflation 6-7%

If India wants to catch China, then India must have an annual GDP growth rate of 39% for next 10 years. If our GDP growth rate remains 8% ,India cannot catch China even in next 75 years.

After-all China is our neighbour and we can never be enemies and SHOULD NOT be enemies. Its not in both countries interests. Its always the media that says its China vs India again and again. Stop and think why is it so... does it benefit someone. Don't blindly form opinion with what is represented in media because media is just there... exactly to form opinions among people. Those who control it want their views to form as major opinion. Its just a medium to influence people.

China has grown mainly due to manufacturing
It has become world factory & has accumulated
over $3trillion mainly thru trade surplus while
india despite cheap labour has huge trade deficit
Our industrialist more interested in local markets then exports. Many import ckd skd & sell local ( good example mobiles )

China has discplined workforce unlike india

India seems to forget that its water supply for agriculture, industry and life is at the mercy of China. If India ever tries to be part of the America's policy of containing China, all the Dragon needs to do is dam the 5 or 6 major rivers that originate in the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau, flow through India and empty into the Indian Ocean or the Bay of Bengal. That will be the end of a rising and shining India.

India Lags China, Politicians to Blame
by san man (View MyPage) on Oct 14, 2011 10:02 AM

In 1990, India's economy was the same size as China's, and even perhaps slightly larger. Now China's economy is 3 times larger than India's.

We don't have to blindly compare ourselves to China, but still, we should be aware of how little Indian politicians do for the public. Whatever growth India is now achieving, is only due to the efforts of the public, with almost no contribution from the politicians.
