外文标题：China launches first-ever deep UV laser device
BEIJING: The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) has launched a deep ultraviolet (DUV) solid-state laser device, making the country first-ever in the world to possess such technology.
CAS President Bai Chunli said that the successful testing of the device suggests the academy's dedication to major innovation and breakthrough in seeking development.
The use of potassium beryllium fluoroborate (KBBF) once stalled the project and Chen Chuangtian, a CAS member along with Xu Zuyuan, a member of the Chinese academy of engineering turned to the Hong Kong University of science and technology for help.
Xu said that they were allowed to use their labs because Chinese mainland research institutes did not have similar ones at that time, adding that they eventually, after many strenuous efforts, invented a KBBF prism coupling device.
It is a momentous invention with highly potent futuristic military applications.

China is slowly making transition from being an efficiency-driven economy to an innovation-driven economy like USA and Europe. Meanwhile India is still a factor-driven economy with no signs of efficiency..just like the economies of Ethiopia and Uganda.

It's a great threat to the outer space asset of India and USA. Because China has always a double standard in its policy. It may use this technology to destroy the satellites and defense equipment of other country.

This is an important milestone. Such lasers can be tapped for military use. 1) Research is on to use their tremendous energy to induce nuclear fusion (like in Hydrogen bomb). Fusion would then be possible at near room temperature which can make the technology portable and very dangerous. 2) It can be used to find, track and destroy missiles in flight. Protoypes of such lasers from other materials are already in use in U.S. China acquiring this technology should be a source of worry for India.

It is a superb technology, offering deeper and more detailed study of the outer space and has endless applications in medical procedures which outweigh its military uses.

Good invention but how they will use if for what purpose? Chines, Japanese, USA, Sweden, UK , EU countries is busy for invention and few countries and its people are want to destroy all and go for modernity benefit to those countries which they don't like. They All are mad

Solid state high energy lasers have significant military applications and can be game changers in a war. They can be fitted to a fighter plane or base to bring down anything from planes to ballistic missiles in a matter of fractions of a second( at the speed of light), unlike conventional missiles which take time.

Our Indians have also become great scientists you can find in all bog research centers around the world. Be it NASA or any. But these have done little to the country where they are born or they find their roots.
