原文标题：China denies preparing for war over South China sea
BEIJING: China has refuted reports that its military was increasing combat readiness in response to a standoff with the Philippines over the disputed islands in South China Sea.
"The reports alleging that the People's Liberation Army, (PLA) Guangzhou Military Area Command and the Navy's South China Sea Fleet have entered combat readiness are not true," the ministry of national defence said.
The defence ministry's comments came after a warnings in state media that China is prepared to fight to end the stand-off. A brief statement from ministry said those reports were not true.
China's maritime standoff with the Philippines in the South China Sea over the dispute of Huangyan Island referred by Philippines as Panatag Shoal has entered the second month.
The two nations have had non-military vessels stationed at the shoal since April 8 in an effort to assert their sovereignty to the area.
The standoff began last month over Philippines objecting to the presence Chinese fishermen at Scarborough Shoal.
The Philippines asserts that the uninhabited island reported to be rich with abundant natural gas and oil as part of its 200 mile exclusive economic zone (EEZ), guaranteed by UN Law of the Seas.
China on the other hand says that the island was part of its coast for centuries therefore it has inherent rights over it.
China also piled up pressure on the Philippines with a travel advisory which resulted in cancellation of tour plans of hundreds of Chinese tourists and stepped controls on imports of fruits and other materials from Manila.
China is the third largest trade partner of the Philippines. Their bilateral trade volume exceeded USD 30 billion last year.
Meanwhile, China watched with considerable interest US efforts to get the Senate approval for the 1982 UN Law of the Sea treaty (UNLST) as it believes that Washington tacitly backed Manila's sudden push for the island.
US military has held series of drills with Filipino force recently.
US is also firming up its military alliances with a host of ASEAN countries which have similar maritime disputes with China in the South China Sea.
US administration officials said UNLST is necessary to protect the US Navy's right to carry out exercises off the coast of China as it teamed with various South East Asian countries including Philippines to turn attention in Asia-Pacific.
The Obama administration says that ratifying the pact will protect US Navy's right to conduct exercises in waters near China.
China, which is a party to the treaty, claims control over its exclusive economic zone that extends about 370 km from its coast and can therefore ban foreign navies from conducting exercises in the area.
US says no such control exists beyond about 22 kilometres from the coast, it said.

As long as no one makes a sudden move, there is little chance of full-fledged military action. Still, China cannot be trusted when it says there is no preparation for war - Indians know that. The metaphysical blogger 'TarotForHeadlines' says tensions will continue, but war is unlikely. The situation will need reassessment if other countries join in.

I doubt the US will intervene for a poor country like the Philipines as it does not make business sense. The Philipinos are just fooling themselves to believe uncle Sam has high moral standard while everyone knows US only interested in itself.

This should be a lesson to all Indians who want a separate country and do not want to live within Indian union. Small countries are very vulnerable to bullies like US and China. They are always under threat and have to take help of another bully who squeezes their finances by having military bases on their land.

Dont even expect that in your wildest dreams, the spineless & indecisive Indian govt cannot control problems within or protect their own borders. They just don't have the calibre of handling medition or intervening proactively in international disputes.

Chinese also said the same when they attacked India in 1961. Never trust these liars.

Never trust China or the US. We need to be cautious of the Chines eg: 1961 war. Need to be cautious of U.S on many occassion. Even 2 years back when India told them not to aid Pakistan they did it.(The money was used to kill innocent Indian)

No need for china to prepare for war as it has already shown the world its strength on various occasions. They are well prepared for any kind of situation whether they attack or defend themselves.
China cannot and will not wage war or any military action against any nation. For them to do will will cause most of the civilized world to boycott them and render its economy into collapse

CHina should acts like UsA. To do whatsoever necessary to protect its interest. Don't have to seek other's permission or opinions. Even basing on lies, UsA invaded Iraq anyway. Did USA seek Pakistant's permission to enter into its territory to kill OSama ? In this real world, power gives you the rights to do what you think it's right for Your own interest and don't have to abide to international or national laws of any countries.
