What are the things that India can learn from China?
Bhuvana Rameshwar, Worried about India
We were on a short trip of the Chinese cities of Beijing and Shanghai on a package tour from Bangalore. We came two days back ..
At first we were surprised to see both cities like “modern Western cities”, not at all like a highly populated, 4 K old civilization. We went expecting a Delhi or a Bangalore..
Great wall kept so clean…
We were surprised, shocked and even ashamed as Indians to see the development, cleanliness and the beauty of their cities. All the sightseeing places were clean and in full order. Queues were disciplined and there were ground staff to maintain law and order.
There were roads in three tiers and more, were excellent with traffic lights, name boards in English and Chinese, painted pillars which were lit beautifully in VIBGYOR colours at night.
Public Washrooms are free, were clean and washed and wiped every 5 minutes with good supply of water, toilet paper, bins, soaps and dryer.
All pay taxes.. The lowest salary people pay 13 percent and it goes up to almost 36 to high earners. There is a compulsory saving for all in the four govt banks. This money is recycled for all their development projects.
Foreign investments are high in China as it woos them with good infrastructure and ease of doing business. Labour is also plenty and cheap.
Their leader has a long term vision and is well supported by his ministers.
All sightseeing places are clean and tourist friendly. No racism anywhere unlike some Western countries. People are helpful and friendly.
The main roads were clean and had no traffic other than cars during the day trips. Most cars were new and big. Later we found out that only cars and buses are allowed on these roads from 6 am to 10 pm. Only after 10 pm vans, lorries, trucks and two wheelers are allowed for maintaining the beauty of their cities. All these work only at night. Similarly vehicles from other districts are not allowed during peak hours to reduce traffic jams. There is a compulsory gap of 2 metres between two vehicles on the road.
Sightseeing places kept so clean
Summer Palace Bridge.. No garbage, frooty packet or plastic bottles
Space below flyovers used as gardens or as bus depots in some places at night. Kept very clean and useful.
Note compulsory gap between two cars
There are no police men or traffic constables on the road . Everything is controlled by multiple cameras and there are heavy fines, jail sentence or loss of driving licence for traffic offences.
There were no people visible anywhere on the roads whiling away time, drinking tea or playing carrom or drunkards. Our guide told us they are all working in some place or other. Chinese govt gives them free houses, food, health care only if they work. Only old people rest at home.
We could see girls and women returning home from work at nights. China is that safe. There are cameras every where. Once a culprit is caught he is gone for life behind bars with a good thrashing.
China has Mandarin as the common, compulsory language for education and for all other official communications. Whole of China thus speaks one language, they are thus united by language.
Com-nist countries follow strict laws thus development is so fast that the whole world is surprised.
There are sky scrapers everywhere in the city centres. Shanghai boasts of 157 such extremely tall buildings.
Govt provides apartments for people which the owner owns for 75 yrs by giving a nominal emi , then it goes to his son. But after that it is govt’s. So basically nobody owns any property.
The bullet train and maglev train were on time and travelled at a speed of 340 km/hr. All localities, roads, public places , bus and railway stations are kept clean. Workers keep cleaning nonstop. But people are also very disciplined.
The Hwangpo river and the sea coast are kept clean. No plastic, or garbage, urine, sewage in them.
All industries have to compulsorily remove toxic waste from their effluents in ground, water and air. Heavy fine otherwise. Nothing works like fines.
Both men and women work and all are good looking and trim. We didn't see fat or obese people.
We didn't see any beggars on the road nor any spitting or urinating any where.
Indians have a lot to learn from them…in terms of discipline, obeying laws, work ethics, population control, trusting law and their leaders, competitive spirit, being good to tourists and keeping public places clean.

India can learn many things from China but after keeping in mind the below mentioned points:-
China is a Homogeneous community, heterogeneity is discouraged and punished
There are 8 languages(dialects) Putonghua (Mandarin), Yue (Cantonese), Wu (Shanghainese), Minbei (Fuzhou), Minnan (Taiwanese), Xiang, Gan and Hakka and many sub-dialects but only 1 official language that supersedes the rest for a country of 120 billion
Ancient China remained behind the great wall of china and modern china resides behind a firewall and go-ship
75% Chinese are atheists
Chinese believe in Confucian Philosophy, what does Confucius say? Every one must obey - 1) Children must obey parents, 2) subjects must obey ruler,3) young must obey elder and there are Confucian institutes across the globe to k-es and to spread the ideals of Confusious. So, there is thousand years of indoctrination for societal compliance. In corporate language, the boss is always right.
Is India ready to go through these things too? If yes, it is possible but is it worth it?? I dont think so. When we compare India with other countrias, whether CHina or whatever, we forget the following:-
years of islamic rule (minority go nment), current islamic population about 25% followed by rape, murder, religious tax on non muslims (jiziya)
200 years of Christian rule (minority go nment), current christian population is 2% also followed by rape, murder (Jallianwala bagh massacre,Great Bengal famine, etc), taxation on Indian industries slowly killing the world renowned handicrafts and textile industry
about 60 years of dynastic rule (Nehru-Gandhi Family) -Overlook the politcs angle from this and just see it as a historic fact
India was divided into 3 countries.Sindhu from which the word “Hindu” and Hindusthan came is now in pakistan
Chinese invasion in 1962
Indo-Pakistan war in 1960
2 front war in 1971 with Pakistan, which led to the formation of Bangladesh
Only Civilization to have seen rise and fall of - Third Reich, USSR, Ghenghiz Khan, Bismark, Alexander,Sumerians,Egyptian civilization,British Empire, USA defeat in Vietnam, China loosing to vietnam in war,Roman empire
Only heterogeneous civilization to have survived for such a long period of time. USSR, Yugoslavia too were heterogeneous communities but they disintegrated into separate nations
