China's new mega project: Beiing's £9 billion airport is near completion as it welcomes the first test plane

Beiing's new mega airport welcomed the first test plane today as the sprawling £9 billion hub gears up for its opening this year.

耗资90亿英镑的北京新大型机场今年将投入使用，今日迎来首架校验飞机。

The aircraft took off from Beiing Capital Airport at 9.28am local time and arrived at the brand new Beiing Daxng International Airport after a quick 42-minute flight, according to China Central Television Station.

据中央电视台报道，这架飞机于当地时间上午9点28分从北京首都机场起飞，经过42分钟的快速飞行后抵达崭新的北京大兴国际机场。

The test flight marks the begng of a two-month assessment to check the quality of the airport's runways and air-control facilities. The airport is scheduled to complete on June 30 and open on September 30.

Beiing Daxng International Airport, designed by late British-Iraqi architect Zaha Hadid, is expected to handle 100 million passenger a year in the long run, which makes it the busiest airport in the world on par with Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in the United States.

It is also set to be one of the world's largest airfields.
