Alibaba penalises sellers evading taxes in India
NEW DELHI: Days after the government’s crackdown on goods being sent to India in the guise of gifts by Chinese e-tailers, e-commerce giant Alibaba said it has taken action against thousands of sellers on its platform who have been caught in the act.
Officials in the Indian customs department last week said large shipments from Chinese e-commerce platforms have been landing on Indian shores, marked as ‘gifts’. Shipping goods as gifts allows an entity to avoid paying duties and taxes, as the government exempts gifts of up to Rs 5,000 under existing laws to allow NRIs to send them back home to relatives.

It''s time for starting a movement " Buy what''s made in INDIA". We have a population of a billion and don''t have to look else where to market it. Sure quality was an issue earlier, but things have changed n our products are up to global standards if not better. Swadeshi Movement 2.0

Such illegal practices be stopped at once by e-commerce companies. When Indian authorities take action then they make hue and cry.

The unscrupulous sellers are so greedy that they abuse each and every excuse to avoid tax and readily make so much noise when some regulations and reforms are imposed.

It is ONLY the citizens who can make the difference. No amount of law can curb these cheap products landing in Indian markets, unless the citizens themselves patriotically avoid buying any foreign products, even if it is a bit costlier in Indian makes. Indian citizens, please avoid e-portals and explore your neighboring markets, you will be doing a good thing for the future India. Especially, avoid all the cheap PRC produces.

Chinese e-tailers, US e-tailers ... And many others are in open violation of India''s retail policy. In addition, Chinese etailers are furthur adding to India''s unfixed trade deficits with China. We''re way too liberal with China and are not taing adequate measures to have non-tariff trade barriers outside policy. And Chinese SCUM now flows directly online

India is a country where we manufacture a host of quality goods compared to the cheap and inferior quality goods. It is unfortunate that Indians support Chinese firms knowing well that they are not are true friends like the Pakistanis. It is unfortunate for India that we were ruled by a corrupt party for 60 years, otherwise we would have overtaken the Chinese long back
