China's leading AI expert warns the technology will take over HALF of jobs within 15 years (and reveals the most at risk careers)

Half of current jobs will be taken over by AI within 15 years, one of China's leading AI experts has warned.

Kai-Fu Lee, the author of bestselling book AI Superpowers: China, Silicon Valley, and the New World Order, told Dailymail.com the world of employments was facing a crisis 'akin to that faced by farmers during the industrial revolution.'

'People aren't really fully aware of the effect AI will have on their jobs,' he said.

Lee, who is a VC in China and once headed up Google in the region, has over 30 years of experience in AI.

He believes it is imperative to 'warn people there is displacement coming, and to tell them how they can start retraining.'

Luckily, he said all is not lost for humanity.

'AI is powerful and adaptable, but it can't do everything that humans do.'

Lee believe AI cannot create, conceptualize, or do complex strategic planning, or undertake complex work that requires precise hand-eye coordination.

He also says it is poor at dealing with unknown and unstructured spaces.

Crucially, he says AI cannot interact with humans 'exactly like humans', with empathy, human-human connection, and compassion.

Psychiatrists, social workers and marriage counselors are unlikely to lose their jobs, along with nurses, AI researchers and scientists, he believes.

However, some jobs will disappear- and quickly.

Most at risk are telemarketers and telesales people, Lee said

Lee also said customer support, warehouse workers and telephone operators are at risk.

if this prediction is true it will undermine the whole world economy.AI contains the seeds of its own destruction!

Of course, weren't we all supposed to be flying around with jet packs strapped to our backs by now? A few jobs will naturally disappear, that's technological progress and it's not the first time this has happened. Our factories used to be full of workers doing the jobs that automated machines now do. Nothing new here.

The jobs that survive will be the ones that involve creativity- hairdressing, ballet dancers, concert pianists and the like. But it does raise the question that all of us ask. With mass unemployment who will have the wherewithal to buy anything.

In a consumer lead society it will be a case of the dragon eating its own tsil. Ai ...fantastic ..ooh look it can take over most of the jobs we currently emoloy people in and it will mean we can lowdr prices and increase sales and profits. All sounds good right? But by making the majority of people redundant and unable to find job that isnt done by an ai robot you removing most of your customer base..nobody will be able to adford your goods becasue none of them have jobs.

Is the UK government preparing for this... the answer is no. It is more real than global warming and we are already feeling the effect of it and evidence is everywhere

I doubt society will allow for most people to be relatively worse off so that a few can me massively well off by introducing AI.

Can AI stop people being stabbed? Can AI instill right from wrong into people ? Can AI give someone common sense ? Please invent something that will deal with what's missing in this world.

Why do you need recruitment people if your workforce is robotic. Who is the Manager going to lead? I thought the idea of Ai was it should solve problems itself. Pointless if it needs a Manager. Surely the safest job would be am Ai developer?

They were saying this 40 years ago. The real worry is warfare and the use of AI to take over the world and turn most of the population into slaves.
