RAIPUR: The suicide of a 19-year-old boy which had baffled his family and police for 12 days was solved with a revelation late Wednesday night — a minor girl walked into a police station in Chhattisgarh’s Korba to say he killed himself because she had been gangraped and he was forced to watch it.

Her statement led to the arrest of suspects Ishwar Das and Khem Kanwar, who have since been booked . On the evening of September 1, the girl was walking home from the market when she came across the 19-year-old, who was going in the opposite direction. Since the road was deserted, he offered to escort her home, Katghora SDOP Sandeep Mittal said.

Das and Kanwar were passing by on a bike when they spotted the teenagers and accosted them. They abused the couple and started beating the boy after snatching away their mobile phones, said the officer. Terrified, the girl ran towards the village for help but the duo chased her down and dragged her back to where the boy lay bleeding and barely conscious.

Das and Kanwar took turns to rape the girl as the other man would keep beating the 19-year-old and make him watch the rape.

Heinous crime. Our courts should move faster. They can''t work on snail pace speed. See the nirbhya case. The culprits are still alive. Our punishments are very soft plus the time delay in issuing the verdicts makes our courts and judiciary look like a laughing stock. Capital punishments for rape should be the minimum one. Verdict should be given in 3 months time with appeal etc finished within this time span.

Court will not hang them. After 2 days everyone will forget about the case and it will not be reported again. these guys will remain in prison indefinitely. if they have resources then after a few years when the case will have turned cold they will come out. this is Indian justice system.
