Alibaba sells $25.3 billion worth of products during "Single's day", more than $1 billion/hour

I never understood how they can sell a phone charger for CHF 1.50 with shipping costs included.
One of the reasons is that China is classified as a developing country by the Universal Postal Union. Meaning, the actual costs of shipping are higher than what the Chinese seller pays. The difference is subsidized by the importing country's national postal service. I have to (indirectly) pay for the cheap stuff you buy on Aliexpress...
There are plans to change this in the next few years.

These numbers are just mind-blowing!

A large proportion of those numbers are from Russia. It is ridiculously popular in the cis region for whatever reasons.

I enjoy it. Theres plenty of Russian reviews on products and they tend to be accurate, so it makes shopping on aliexpress/alibaba a little less shady.

for whatever reasons
There is a very simple reason. Quality/Cost. It's also hugely popular here in Eastern Europe

Damn those sales are worth close to a third of Finnish national budget.
