BEIJING: A Chinese soldier, who was stuck in India for over 50 years after he crossed over the border following the 1962 war, today arrived here with his Indian family members to an emotional reunion with his Chinese kin.
Wang Qi, 77, was received by his close Chinese relatives, besides officials of the China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Indian embassy when he arrived here along with his son, daughter-in-law and grand daughter from Delhi-Beijing flight.
Wang became emotional as he hugged his relatives, their first reunion after he crossed into Indian side over five decades ago.
"It was an emotional reunion," an official present at the airport told PTI here.
Wang was accompanied by his son Vishnu Wang, 35, daughter-in-law Neha and grand daughter, Khanak Wang. His Indian wife Shushila, however, stayed back.
Indian officials said Wang and family members will be later flown to Xian, the provincial capital in Shaanxi province from where he will be taken to his native village Xue Zhai Nan Cun in the province.
和王琪一同随行的还有35岁的儿子 Vishnu Wang、儿媳Neha 和孙女 Khanak Wang。
Usually a POW is deported, handed over to his native country. Why was he allowed to remain in 1969 when he was released. Did he acquire Indian citizenship after serving his term. He was an enemy afterall and why was he let remain in India???

because the Chinese communists are bloodthirsty and if he had returned he would have been shamed or branded incompetent or even a traitor for surrendering to the enemy and would have been shot. he must have thought better not to go back and live quietly here in India.

Please let''s not jump to conclusions,he Waldo across accidentally the Indian army kept him in solitary confinement for 7 years only to realise he made a mistake,Chinese reported him missing and the Indians never admitted they have him,India should have raised the issue through diplomatic channels for his return,at the end it was a documentary made by the BBC which helped him go back.

This is the greatness of India and Hindus. A soldier from an enemy nation is kept with full honour and safety.

Chinese soldier crosses into India, is jailed & released, married and settles with family but now is permitted to visit his relatives after 50 years in China and come back to India! Difficult to believe! Why not India & China exhibit the same cooperation in politics???
