GUWAHATI: Aiming to take railway services in the region to new heights, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has planned to bring trains to Arunachal Pradesh's Tawang.

Tawang is located at a height of 10,000 feet on the border with China. Survey work for the project will start next year.

NFR general manager (construction), H K Jaggi, said three strategic lines connecting Bhalukpung to Tawang, Murkongselek (Assam) to Pasighat in Arunachal and Silapathar (Assam) to Bane in Arunachal were in the pipeline.

为了让火车通往新高度,印度东北边疆铁路计划把火车开往“阿邦”的达旺。

达旺位于与中国接壤的1万英尺海拔地区。

The estimated cost of the project is Rs 50,000 crore to Rs 70,000 crore. Jaggi said the Bhalukpung-Tawang line would be the most challenging as it would pass through terrain with altitudes ranging from 500 feet to 9,000 feet.

About bloody time. China has superfast trains in Tibet. They can move an armoured division from Beijing to Lhasa in 48 hours. Something similar would take India 6 months. Glad Modi Sarkar is finally in power.

This will further tighten India''s hold over Arunachal. Troop build up would be much faster. I wish this had happened 10 years ago, when China was connecting Mainland China to Lhasa through the Tibetan Railway. But then the UPA Govt was too busy making money to pay attention to India''s strategic needs.
