BEIJING: China has confirmed that its aircraft carrier has for the first time conducted drills in the South China Sea with a formation of other warships and fighter jets, a move that could raise concerns among its neighbors.
The defense ministry said several J-15 fighter jets took off and landed from the flight deck of the aircraft carrier Liaoning on Monday. The Liaoning, China's first and only aircraft carrier, sailed into the South China Sea last week.
The confirmation comes days after Taiwan's defense ministry said the carrier and five other warships had passed south of Taiwan. The self-ruled island deployed fighter jets to monitor the fleet.
China calls the drills part of a routine open-sea exercise, but they could add to tensions between Beijing and Taipei.

Shame on China.Entire world is condemning it.
To China - Please do drill and military exercise in Indian ocean with Pakistan. Only then our leaders would realise they need to open their eyes and do something about POK, COK, ARUNACHAL and even kick yours and Pakistans ass.
OTHERWISE our leaders would always be indulged in rally's, Scam's, bullying each other etc.
Your exercise may give them some kick, so that they start bullying and fuc...ing you and Pakistan.....
Paper tiger........ its just for their camers to get their people excited. From loosing economic power to power of gunpowder. Poooooooof goes the mad(magic not) dragon
Everything is routine in China, it seems, even if they do something they have never done in say a few years and on such a large scale. China is currently the SINGULAR THREAT facing the world today apart from Global warming. The stronger they get the more unstable this part of the world becomes.
The reason the yuan has been going down lately is not China government manipulation but capital flight. Wealthy Chinese are trying to get their money out of China as fast as they can because they fear a new maxi-devaluation is coming.
China has burned through $1 trillion of foreign exchange reserves in the past two years to accommodate the demand for dollars from this capital flight. China’s holdings of U.S. Treasury debt have crashed from $1.265 trillion in November 2015 to $1.115 trillion as of October 2016 according to U.S. Treasury data.
China’s overall reserves have fallen from about $4 trillion in 2014 to $3 trillion today. Of that amount, about $1 trillion is illiquid and another $1 trillion will be needed to bailout China’s banks in the coming credit crisis. That only leaves $1 trillion as a precautionary reserve to defend the yuan. China’s capital flight continues at about $100 billion per month. This means China will be broke in one year
