Diwali 2016: Chinese goods sale dips 40% after boycott call
JAIPUR: Campaigns calling for boycott of Chinese products have impacted sales of those items by up to 40% here with many people preferring to buy India-made products only during their festive shopping.
In the wake of escalating tension between India and Pakistan after the Uri attack, activists have been running campaigns on roads and on social media platform to boycott products from ‘Pakistan’s friend’ China.
A trade body has ascertained that there has been a 30-40% impact on goods like decorative lights which records huge sales during Diwali, whereas a slight impact has also been felt on China-made electronic goods.
“In an internal survey, we found that the sale of decorative Chinese lights and other similar products has declined by 30-40% in recent days. Demand of electronic items like LCDs and others made in China has also declined by 10-15% while this impact is 2% on mobile phones,” Suresh Agrawal, president of Federation of Rajasthan Trade and Industry (FORTI), said.
Good beginning. Now even the last support of China”s trade – smartphones – have exhausted its potential after this Diwali sale. No more Chinese goods. Learn to use and like Indian or Korean or Japanese substitutes. And if you can”t afford, wait. But don”t allow our money to go to China to be used against our young soldiers standing at the border. Cut of the monetary lifeline of Chinese manufacturing dragon. It will go back to sleep.
Excellent…All States should follow the ban on Chinese goods…Electronics should be next in ban list. I hope Indian Actors realize that they are promoting Chinese goods and stop doing it… India is very huge market for Chinese goods..Lets MAKE IN INDIA…
Petrol and diesel are cheaper in India than China.
this response from india was overdue. but we have to go a long way before it actually makes a difference, media must lead.
Let us show the Chinese b@$tards what we can do.
Plz give list of made in China electronics and smartphone companies
With the money they make in India…they support Pakistanis…they have occupied Kashmir…down with Chi-a!
Proud to be indian. Love all indians. Responsibility lies on traders whi will not import from china. Chinese cell phones have no quality.
Correct. Smartphones are big ticket revenue for China. Take a resolution this New Year to keep the present phone for at least 6 months. Let the Chinese feel the pinch for two quarters and the dragon will fall in line.

The only way to hit China is via trade boycotts. Unfortunately, the Government cannot give an open call for various reasons and therefore we citizens must show our support by avoiding such goods or checking for the country of manufacture before buying.
