Incredible pictures show two Chinese climbers trying to scale a 3,710ft mountain – despite both having no legs
Incredible images show two double amputees who lost their legs in accidents encouraging each other to climb a 3,710-foot-tall mountain in China.
11-year-old Gao Zhiyu and 33-year-old Chen Zhou attempted to scale the famous mountain near Qingdao together on September 9, reports the People’s Daily Online.
Chen who lost his legs when he was just 13, has travelled to over 700 cities in China and has climbed some 100 mountains. He invited Gao to join his latest adventure after hearing the boy’s inspiring story.
11-year-old Gao Zhiyu lost both of his legs in a car accident in 2012.
Gao Zhiyu has been out of school for four years after being hit by a car during the summer break.
His father made Gao ‘new legs’ from wood allowing him to rejoin his class after the summer break this year.
During his long stay in hospital, he kept up with work, using his spare time to study.
Upon hearing the boy’s story, Chen Zhou invited him to climb Lao Mountain in Qingdao.
The pair used wooden boxes with handles to help them move up the mountain.
They had to take regular rest breaks throughout the day.
Chen has travelled to over 700 cities across China and climbed over 100 mountains including some of China’s most famous.
According to Sina, the man has a wife and son and has since become a motivational speaker.

Any disability a person can get through is amazing in itself people. I’ve been there myself and trust me when I say people treat you differently although they may not realise it. Once an accident happens to a person there is only two choices (for me at least) either you move forward and accept what has happened or turn into a vegetable by staying away from society. The second choice is very hard to remove oneself from so never give up hope. I wish both these men all the best in their futures.
