India extends $500 million credit line to Vietnam to help it strengthen its defence
NEW DELHI: Even as Vietnam continues to be at odds with neighbour China over the South China Sea issue+ , Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Saturday that New Delhi will give Hanoi a line of credit of $500 million to help shore up its defences.
“We recognized the need to cooperate in responding to emerging regional challenges. As two important countries in this region, we also feel it necessary to further our ties on regional and international issues of common concern,” PM Modi said.
The line of credit is just one of a dozen agreements India and Vietnam signed in Hanoi during Modi’s state visit. Most of the agreements are to do with deepening the two countries’ defence and security engagement, both economically and geopolitically.
a right step , at the right time . Vietnam deserves India”s attention like never before
New Delhi will give Hanoi a line of credit of $500 million to help shore up its defences. And Pakistan is dying for $300 million from the US.
A very bold step from any Indian leader so far. The visit itself is an historic one. Our defence products can be sold to the Vietnam Govt. to fortify it. Anyone who is opposed to China or opposed by it for any reason should be supported by India to create a thorn in the heel spot
China has signed an agreement with Pak to build 8 submarines for Islamabad.India is only giving few speed boats to Vietnam.India”s offer of Brahmos to Vietnam is a right step
This is what Indian communists and liberals didn”t want to see. They wished for a thriving and growing China which could bully India with its military might. But Modi is turning the tables by improving diplomatic relations with worthy democracies and cornering China. This is the kind of PM we needed.
I hope India will give more credit to Vietnam to strengthen their defense, which eventually helps India to counter China.
