China ranks as low as 91st in the world in internet speed
BEIJING: Anyone who spends any time online in China knows surfing the internet is like wading through quicksand. That is especially true when browsing websites not hosted on a Chinese server.
This week, an online report published in China Daily, a state-run, English-language newspaper, said that China, the world’s second-largest economy, ranked an abysmal 91st in the world in internet speed, with the average broadband connection scored at a mere 9.46 megabits per second, or Mbps. There are nearly 200 countries in the world.
The report ranked the top five countries in internet speed as South Korea, Sweden, Norway, Japan and the Netherlands. The average broadband speed in South Korea was reported as 26.7 Mbps. In Sweden, it was 19.1 Mbps.
The report promoted the fact that China now has 688 million people online, about half the population; that it added 40 million new internet users in 2015; and that 90 percent of users can get online via their mobile phones.
India has the slowest internet speeds in Asia and India stands at 114th position with an average internet speed of 2.8 Mbps.
Thanks, I was wondering about that. China”s speed is not that bad
average speed of 2.8 Mbps? Most of users have in Kbps, so who has got the higher speed who are averaging India”s average internet speed…Ambani and like ?
i hav 8 mega bits per second
No wonder, during my trip to India, never was able to book a train journey
Well india”s average speed of 2.5 is lower then that of china which is 3.7. Why does the article didnt mention that?
Great job talking about how slow China”s internet speed is. Slam! And a rank of 91 must be so bad!.
Sadly while we look smug thinking of the poor situation is China, the times article fails to report that in the same report, India was ranked 148th in internet speeds. India”s average connection speed is about 1/4th that of China with a meagre 2.36Mbps.
Compared to India, China”s internet speeds are awesome.
Funny! No mention of India or Pakistan?
What is rank for India , if provided would have helped compare the two highly populated nations.
Lol India is one to talk. Indian avg is just one fourth of Chinese avg. Height of hypocrisy by India.
9.8 ang is not bad, we are even lower
Indian news paper has the habit of belittling China always, but not aware of India”s abysmal internet speed.First try to improve first and criticize others then.
But what about India internet speed?Dont worry for China
