Mumbai/Nashik: In a case that has sent shockwaves across Maharashtra, a village caste panchayat in Nashik district has termed a newly married girl as 'not virgin' after her husband told them she had failed the 'virginity test', and has allowed him to end the relationship barely 48 hours after he tied the knot with her.
A day after the wedding on May 22, the caste panchayat - all such bodies are outlawed in the state- allegedly offered the groom a white bedsheet and asked him to return it soon after the marriage had been consummated. After the groom showed the panchayat that there were no blood stains on the bedsheet, the group allowed the groom to terminate the relationship.
Social workers Ranjana Gavande and Krishna Chandgude told TOI that the girl had been preparing for physical tests for recruitment in the police force and was involved in running, long jump, cycling and other exercises.
They said they will file a police complaint if no "amicable solution" is reached after a meeting with the caste leaders on Thursday.
This is utter nonsense, absolute bigotry.... those oldies sitting as panchayat heads should be asked whether they would like that kind of a test for their daughters???
What about mans virginity test?? How will they verify it??
Dr. Vilas Ravat
She should finish such relation, in future he will be trouble for her if such type of thoughts are there
what abt him?? he should also be checked.
is there a virginity test for men ??? There should be one, it''s only fair.
He should be tested for proper erection and other sex related desease before he allowed to get marry!! He might be impotent.
When will India develop?????
feel sorry for the girl
It is ridiculous. If that was their thought process, they should have made the girl do a medical examination before marriage.
Poor girl looses virginity to 1 night husband to prove virginity is so very disgusting !!
come on man..which era you are in !
No legal grounds! Will face music...
Stupidity, Most of the indians have similar mentility, they want a virgin wife, otherthings doesnt matter for them things like, feeling, understanding, and good nature, i believe when ur going to tie ur self to a marriage you shouldnt look for virginty.
What a shame. This khap panchayet is showing we are still in the medieval age.
