WASHINGTON: Not born when the Vietnam War began and a high-schooler in Honolulu when it ended, President Obama on Monday announced the lifting of a decades-old ban on sale of lethal American military equipment to the country Washington once swore to destroy in an effort to stop the spread of communism.
Although the growing US wariness of China- Vietnam's domineering northern neighbor with which it fought a long border war - is widely seen as the reason for Washington's outreach, Obama maintained it is not so. ''The decision to lift the ban was not based on China or any other considerations,'' he said, with Vietnamese president, Tran Dai Quang, by his side. ''It was based on our desire to complete what has been a lengthy process of moving toward normalization with Vietnam.''
The whole world knows that US uses all nations to its benefits....Sanctions on Iran for no reason and now lifting sanctions coz they need territory to attack with neighbours after relations sour with saudi arabia...Same thing with Vietnam...now they need to show off with China hence they need Vietnam land...One day end too will come for USA coz no one is more powerful than god
Vietnam is very important country to control China and US is doing good
USA desperately needs a war in the region. It is in USA''s best interest that India-China-Japan-Vietnam clash. That is the only way to push China back, otherwise, they threaten USA Hegemony in finance and economics.
Good move by Obama administration . Otherwise Vietnam is going to be in hand of china
Good to see US entering Vietnam to counter China
India should support Vietnam
Well clearly its move to sell weapons taking advantage of the Chinese threat!!
Washington needs to arm friendly countries surrounding China!
My enemy''s enemy is my friend!
I think this is a great move by U.S. because China cannot keep bullying tiny surrounding countries and usurping their land and natural resources.Only America can contain this monster or else they along with North Korea and pak could become a global threat.
A new era for Vietnam and problem for China ambition in south china sea.
China is much too smart and powerful for USA to take on directly. So USA recruits "useful idiot" nations like Japan and Philippines (and now Vietnam and India) to pay USA (in the form of expensive weapons) for the dubious privilege of being cannon fodder by provoking China. It''s a win-win outcome for USA, but a lose-lose scenario for these duped countries.
With Russia losing power, it is now USA which will have to rein in China.
China will find itself lonely unless it changes aggresive posture
china and pakistan need to be diplomaitcally isolated.
