A farmer in south east China has designed and built a submarine for just 5,000 Yuan (£500) but getting in it proves to be a bit of a tight squeeze.
Zhang Shengwu, from Maanshan in Anhui province, spent two months working on the submarine, which barely has room for one, while his wife was visiting her mother, the People's Daily Online reports.
But despite its size, the 51-year-old farmer managed to get a patent certificate from the State Intellectual Property Office.
The 51-year-old seems to be able to put his mind to anything.
As soon as he graduated from high school, he started selling vegetables. He then went on to work as a carpenter and later in the shipping industry.
Zhang says he enjoys inventing things and one day thought it would be fun to make a submarine.
The finished product is six metres long and just about fits Zhang
However he's had to install a small pipe that runs to the surface to provide oxygen as the vessel is too small to install gas cylinders.
Zhang says that this limits its diving range and he does regret not thinking of a way to ensure air supply at the time.
The submarine's top cruising speed is 7 nautical miles per hour according to China.com.
Zhang says that he has big plans for a nautical rescue boat next.
