It's not funny, correct. But it's not any ritual or form of punishment. This is just entertainment*sigh*. These kind of morbid scenes are not very rare where the performer claims that no damage will be caused but they stake too much and risk of accident is very high. It does happen and I find this disturbing and so is with many

But as I said, they do make a statement(when they stake wellness and/life) that staked object/person will come unscathed at the end of the performance. And no, I don't know how that's possible in this case.
