These poignant portraits of Chinese twins show how once-identical siblings have changed almost beyond recognition over time.
Photographer and artist Gao Rongguo, from Binzhou in China's Shandong province, wanted to show the impact life has on our faces and bodies.
He chose twins who are all over 50 and pictured them facing one another as though they are looking at their reflection in a mirror.
The images demonstrate how the twins have taken different paths through life and how their physical appearance has changed over the years. Some have more hair than their sibling while others are more wrinkled or are not as tall.
One of the most powerful portraits shows a man posing for his photograph while opposite him is barren countryside - his twin having died before he did.
Gao wrote on his website: 'I decided to photograph identical twins over the age of fifty. He or she used to have the same face, living in the same family, but their lives changed due to various reasons after growing up.'
