Don’t worry about Chinese investment in Colombo Port City project, Wickremesinghe tells India
BEIJING: India need not worry about security issues emanating from Chinese investment in the controversial Colombo Port City project, and China’s efforts to gain access to the Indian Ocean, Sri Lankan prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said on Saturday.
“There is no question of security problem. The Indian security issues have been addressed by us. There will be further discussions with India,” he said in Beijing after resuming work on the 1.4 billion project, which he had stalled one year back.
He even defended enhanced Chinese presence in the Indian Ocean saying, “As it stands now, we cannot see a major clash or a threat taking place in the Indian Ocean because the Chinese military presence is one that is connected with the anti- piracy operations”.
“Sri Lanka is committed to freedom of navigation in the Indian Ocean,” he said.
What could be worrying for India is military agreements signed between China and Sri Lanka during his four-day visit to Beijing.
“We are going to have further military co-operation by training. They offered offshore patrol vessel (OPV),” he said. India is also building two such vehicles for Sri Lanka, he pointed out.
The prime minister pointedly said that the, “Chinese have not asked for any military base in Sri Lanka.”
There has been talk that China might try to build a military base in the Indian Ocean in view of the U.S. naval presence in the area.
“India has naval presence as part of anti-piracy operation. China is also setting up base in Djibouti (in the Horn of Africa). Many countries are setting up bases. But that is part of UN agreement on anti-piracy operation,” he said.
Sri Lankans will learn their lesson the hard way and they have every right to do so !

Why is India opposing every development work funded by China. By this habit India will find it difficult to have a positive image in Asia. Before opposing , India must understand the reality of the world today. China is worlds second largest economy. China has developed a lot lot more than India has in last 30 years. China has 4 Trillion Dollars of money for investing in foreign countries.
Indias entire economy is 2.5 Trillion. In other words india needs to develop itself first then it can take a position in world or asian stage. But China is ready to take this role. Unfortunately most geo political strategic analyst in India do not see the whole picture and make aggressive remarks based on their limited biased knowledge. It can find audiance within India but on asian and wolrd stage, these points will not be taken seriously. China is investing in a business port in sri lanka. This will improve trade and also job in sri lanka. India can not just lable this project as a security threat. Everything that China does is not with india in mind. China has huge investments in almost all continents including US and EU. So its important that Indian think tanks realise and accept the world order and speak and act accordingly, otherwise we will become a laughing stock and a hurdle in reigional and world develoment for which China is the real growth engine.
We dont need to worry . The dragon is getting older by the min and its aged population will tell a different story. They r just paper tigers that cant function any longer n now they will fight just like their female chickens after a hump to get extra cash

We cannot expect any country to do our bidding. You help remove one thrn, another one will grow.
We have to strengthen our capabilities, where we don’t need to worry about others presence or strength.
