31m, or 50%, of US children live in poverty: Report
NEW YORK: Nearly half of children in the US live dangerously close to the poverty line and more kids today are likely to live in families barely able to afford their most basic needs, a new report has claimed. The report by researchers from the National Centre for Children in Poverty (NCCP) at Columbia University illustrates the severity of economic instability and poverty conditions faced by more than 31 million children throughout the US.
A family is considered poor if its earnings are below 100% of the poverty threshold ($24,008 for a family of four with two children in 2014). More than four in 10 US children are living close to the poverty line. While 44% of children live in low-income households, only 33% of adults between 18 and 64 years of age live in these households.

Yes, “poor” USA. What is happening to the money earned by selling arms? Are these children kids of illegal immigrants? That is not clear.

In India they low the standard to bring them above the line.

ohh and they call us poor country….
And still America is super power… Very strange..
Ask this question to the Western media before they write about our nation’s poverty.
How contradictory…. One side America is a super power and on other side America is starving….
US poverty is different from Indian poverty!
Well, US has 100s of billions of dollars to maintain its military bases around the world but nothing to take care f their poor people? US’s dream of global colonization will ruin it one day.
And US people says India is poor.
Every dog has a day. US should stop talking poverty of other nations and also stop selling arms to terrorists; Else He will punish you.
US is also poverty ridden even after being a world number one economy.
They live better life than our middle class children.
US needs to cut their huge unnecessary expenses, it is surprising how Kids remain with just basic necessities when US offers al sort of social security ti poor, unemployed.
Even in India a poor Parsi is defined as one earning less than 90000 rupee per month. So different countries different yardsticks of poverty. No need to get alarmed over such reports
