India is conducting the final trials of its first nuclear-armed submarine, which would make it the sixth country in the world to possess a vessel capable of launching nuclear warheads from underwater.
When deployed, the submarine will complete India's nuclear triad — allowing it to launch atomic weapons from land, sea and air.
What does this mean for the world?
India's deployment of a nuclear-armed submarine could put the nation into a naval arms race with regional powers, potentially prompting China to assist its nuclear-armed allies Pakistan and North Korea in developing similar technologies, according to Bloomberg.
Both India and China subscribe to a No First-Use policy on nuclear weapons. They regard nuclear-armed submarines as a deterrence aimed at preventing the outbreak of war.
Which other countries have nuclear-armed submarines?
The UK, USA, France, Russia and China already have nuclear-armed submarines.
One have to remember 3 similar russian junk indian submarines are already sleeping with fishes so it's fate would be more or less the same. Good target practice for Pak navy in the sea though.
Nuclear Submarine is very important to plan and execute nuclear attack on enemies.
Are you kidding? The work began in 1998? So the technology is out of date in 2016.
Great Accomplishment. India needs a strong deterrence capability against Chinese !!
INS Arihant is Diesel or Petrol?....... Kitna dethi hai?
If u r powerful u can avoid war as ur enemy would think 10 times before attacking u and weakness would make u easy target so good step for security of the country
Good but it is easily detectable. Also work on this issue
Although it's a good news that, India has developed Nuclear capable submarine but the most unfortunate part is, the project took 46 years. It was during NDA rule, when development got accelerated i.e. 1998 and 2014-16 else Congress has delayed it beyond imagination.
The 6,000-ton,110-metre-long INS Arihant Nuclear submarine of India.Really #Amazing,Gigantic, huge @PMOIndia
why does it take 5 decades to build a submarine ?? we should be able to build it in 5 yrs !! look at production line in south korea of ships / tankers etc . the technology they use is amazing . we should deploy similar methods
Will this thing will work when we need it
Copy of 25 year old junk Russian sub technology. Hope it doesn't end up as another Kursk, INS Sindhurakshak, or INS Sindhuratna,
