NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said narratives in India tend to focus on the royalty or the ruling class while the struggles and contributions of those considered 'inferior' by society are rarely recognized and celebrated.
"It is the 'small' people who shape history and bring change in society," Modi said. The PM was speaking as the chief guest at the Times Now Amazing Indians Awards 2016 on Thursday.
"Why is it that a teacher who shaped many lives has no road or 'chowk' named after him or her whereas a corporator does?" he asked.
Reflecting on Indian history and mythology, the PM offered illustrations from the Ramayana (the squirrels who helped build the Ram setu) and the Mahabharata (Sudama, Krishna's humble friend). He also recalled the Panj Pyaras, and the brave Mawal foot-soldiers who were part of Chhatrapati Shivaji's army.
MODI himself is a best example to say HOW SMALL PEOPLE MAKE IT BIG in India
what does he mean by "small "? There are better words for common people if he meant them. Why humiliate common people with his "small " gyan? Better talk in simple and meaningful words
Teachers just cannot have the roads on their name because the decision makers are corporators
PM a good visionary has to eradicate corruption from his own party to give a foundation to the vision.
For small people to work, corruption has to come down. Mr Modi, are you doing anything about it?
Congress party never believed so. That is the reason the party always glorified Nehru and Gandhi clan only.
We need more shows like Amazing Indians, more and more people are inspired
With out common people there is no India. They only contribute more to Nation than politicians and Corporate for the growth. The elite are looters of Society.
