CHENNAI: The flood-ravaged city was on Saturday struggling to return to normalcy with partial restoration of telecommunication and train services, besides many roads also becoming fairly motorable even as waterlogging woes continued in several areas.
Torrential rains have left at leasts 245 people dead since October 1, according to the Tamil Nadu government. The situation took a turn for the worse on Tuesday with large areas of the city flooded. The deluge destroyed crucial road and rail links, shutdown the airport, snapped power and telecom lines and left lakhs of people stranded.
There were serpentine queues outside the few ATMs and petrol stations that were operating. Tamil Nadu government has said that the fuel situation will ease in the next couple of days. Banks in the state will remain open tomorrow, though it is a Sunday.
The heroes are also the policemen and other civil officials who would have had some of their family in marooned areas but still came to help others as part of their duty. Like usual, these police remain unsung and brickbatted when a small something goes wrong.
good that normalcy has teturned
The entire forces of DEFENCE and NDRF and POLICE have done a very commendable job and needs to be applauded.

Now that the flood water is receeding, plans should be made for desilting the rivers besides the cleaning the drainage system to tackle any such calamity in future. Get back to normal Chennai.

The sad story is being repeated in many parts of country. When would we learn from our mistakes.
