IAF chopper makes emergency landing in Mumbai
MUMBAI: Minutes after taking off from the domestic airport at Santacruz, the Indian Air Force helicopter MI-17 experienced technical problem and made an emergency landing at 2.25pm at the Bandra-Kurla Complex ground.
On learning about the emergency landing, the Bandra-Kurla Complex police rushed to the spot and cleared the huge crowd that gathered to take pictures of the helicopter.
“Prima facie, it appears from the officials present in the helicopter that they decided to go for an emergency landing due to a technical snag,” said BKC police senior inspector Kundlik Nigade.
“The helicopter pilot managed to land in the midst of all buildings without any damage. One of the wheels has got entrenched in the ground,” said the police.
“The MI-17 helicopter was on a routine training sortie when it experienced technical problem,” the defence spokesperson told TOI.

Safe flying! Happy landings!
Pilots took right decisions! Avoided an accident!
The pilot of the chopper used his best skills and managed to land it safely.
An astute pilot. Bravo
MI-17 choppers are more than 4 decade old bought from USSR. These should have been phased out long back. Why they are still in service ?
It is really fortunate that ground was empty no one was hurt during the incident
Thank God there was no damage to life or property
Perhaps there was gang raping going on in the helicopter and the vibrations brought it down.
Good that it landed safely. All credit to the pilot..
Actually hindus invented gravity. That is why buildings and planes keep falling down
Hats-off to pilot for his presence of mind.
Good job done……
This helicopter seems to have been in IAF since 1947
The pilot took the right decision.
