NEW DELHI: The indigenous Tejas light combat aircraft will be able to thrash the Pakistani JF-17 'Thunder' fighters in "reach, punch and ability to kill and survive in an engagement", top Indian defence officials asserted.
But that will be possible only when the Tejas is ready with an AESA (active electronically scanned array) radar, mid-air refuelling, long-range BVR (beyond visual range) missiles and advanced electronic warfare capabilities. Moreover, the single-engine fighter has to undergo 43 "improvements" out of the 57 "weaknesses" detected in its maintainability, which will ensure it can land and take off again within an hour, the officials said.
All this will take another three years at the very least, further prolonging the already tortuous development saga of the country's first home fighter that began way back in 1983.
Tejas is going to be expensive...But in long run better than importing Military planes....Need of the hour is good team similar to ISRO
Agree we need sharp enginners from IIT to take this project but not old hal engineers
by the time these planes are ready most would have developed technology 50 years ahead of us. bureaucracy is the cancer that delays even such achievements in our country. this is nothing but a show.
it indicates the laziness of our scientists...need to speed up the process of building indigenous weapon systems
Confidence matter most ... Indian Air force is more confident than pak's
I must say the !d!ot officials who claim this have a good sense of humour pakistani chinese made jets are operational where as u will take anywhere about 10 years to get the first operational tejas, by the time the technology will be obsolete. this is what happens when u hire some J#rk on the basis of his caste and nt talent.
With nuclear arsenal in hand, it is very unlikely for India to have an all out war! It has enough time to support and streamline home productions
It looks like our neighbours will be flying 10th generation fighters when we proudly receive our 5th generation Tejas. Can't complain I guess as long as it makes us happy in a fools paradise.
