IAF wants over 100 Rafale or similar jets
NEW DELHI: Indian Air Force on Saturday said it would need at least six squadrons comprising 108 Rafale or similar jets to shore up its capabilities as it hoped that the contract for 36 French fighter aircraft would be inked by year-end.
Noting that two squadron of 18 Rafale jets each might not be enough, Air Force chief Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha said his force would like to have at least six squadrons of the medium multi-role combat aircraft (MMRCA).
He hinted that even though the Rafale is the front-runner, India may go in for another aircraft with similar capabilities “if the deal is good”.
Why the government is not seriously thinking one the lines to make indigenous ones in our land, if not for today, at least for the future they should plan rather than depending on overseas contract and purchases. Where not only the hard earned foreign exchange is lost, but also prone to many other spying software’s that are not detectable so easily! And the local employment would also an additional benefit.
Make in India is only solution for INDIAN defence requirement. I don’t understand we can reach space by Indian made rockets but we cannot make a fighter jets
Why IAF can not induct Tejas? Why they always have to for expensive Foreign Aircraft? IAF should buy 72 Tejas and be ready to fight Pakistan and China
This Government accused the previous Government of delaying these aircraft and even after 18 months no action is taken. They are only big talkers.
india is big country and needs lots of defence budget, but it’s high time, we should indigenise the defence production.. DRDO and all private companies should try to be self-sufficient on this..
Instead of concentrating on the traditional planes the IAF should consider Drones in large numbers making it cost effective and also less fatal.
Good! sideline Russia. Let them deal with beggars like Pakistan. If Putin thinks his economy will get a boost by “giving away” MiGs to Pakistan – he is a greater fool than I thought he was.
Who is going to fly them.
