BHOPAL: A 45-year-old man accidentally slipped into a pothole at an under-construction road in Katni district of Madhya Pradesh and was buried alive after careless workers stuffed the crater with molten bituminous material and ran a dumper over it to level the stretch.
It happened on Friday night and would have gone unnoticed had residents not discovered the man's arm sticking out from the tarred road.
Angry villagers blocked traffic after the battered body was exhumed and sent for autopsy. The blockade was lifted after senior police officials intervened and assured action against the construction company.
The man was identified as Latori Barman, resident of Khadra village. Speaking to TOI, district collector Vivek Narwal said Barman's kin will be given Rs 50,000 as compensation.
The driver of the dumper and a labourer who had filled the pothole were arrested and booked for negligence leading to death.
Very pathetic accident. Utter carelessness by the Construction company.
Why do you blame the construction co. how anybody expects a drunkard in the pits of the road. Its the drunkards fault.
How is this front page news?
drunk man sleeping in pothole in midle of night .. what do we expect ??
His drunkenness cost him his life! The meager compensation which I agree is a mockery and blaming the construction company will not bring the poor man back to life. Sad he had to die in this horrific manner.
Workers are Not supposed to anticipate a man sleeping in potholes. Heavy Machinery dumps in large Quantity and a sleeping person can go unnoticed. wont blame the workers.
In Gitaji This is fate of drunk.
Don't walk after drinking. Better drink at home.
50k is enough for useless drunkard. it was not the complete fault of the workers
Another BJP ruled state...
Are you stupid or drunk?
his life was written that much only
