John Kerry confident India-US bilateral trade can increase five-fold to $500bn
WASHINGTON: India and the US on Tuesday kicked off the first strategic and commercial dialogue with a focus on boosting trade ties and enhancing regional security ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meeting with President Barack Obama.
US secretary of state John Kerry and external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj highlighted the priority areas in bilateral ties as they inaugurated the India-US Strategic and Commercial Dialogue.
Swaraj said India and US are on a path of increased cooperation.
Kerry said India and the US can together shape up more secure and prosperous future.
He said the US was not satisfied with the current level of bilateral trade at $100 billion and expressed confidence that it could be increased five-fold in the next few years.
Kerry said that Prime Minister Modi will meet President Obama next week.
I still doubt US as a good ally. For me, Russia is still far better. Where as US keeps good relationship with Pakistan even though they knew that Pakistan is behind most of the attacks in India. And they are still funding them. And Pakistan keeps on developing nuclear arsenal!!!
Diplomacy never calls for hypothetical doubts. It relates to present mutual interests based on ground realities
Its all about money , russia never offer dollar except war material. U.S.A and India must improve relation through dialogues.
If US walks away from Pakistan, China will own Pakistan completely. Better for US to maintain dialogue with them to have some influence, which will be better for India in the long run. No other choice whether we like it or not because sometimes it is better to “lose the battle but win the war” rather than “win the battle but lose the war”
USA has never betrayed their friends. Particularly the democratic countries.
India is also nobody friends and always works for its interest. So what is wrong in that. Is China our friend. Every country protects its interest first and that is good diplomacy
Exactly & also they funded Pakistan even after India raised the issue…They simply ignored India…
Russia is a struggling country. A beggar can not make other beggar rich. No country in the world has grown with Russian assistance. So increasing business with America is in right direction.
I am waiting for the next elections, If Hilary Clinton comes to power, Indian USA relations will be very close. She already told pakistan that they harbor snakes in their backyard

You cannot totally relay on what they say and how they will act.
By ignoring US India lost a lot.
CHINA HAS 300 BILLION MUTUAL TRADE WITH USA WHEREAS INDIA IS 40 BILLION . DONT COMPARE UNNECESSARILY .
