Hindi not getting enough prominence, says Rajnath
NEW DELHI: Union home minister Rajnath Singh on Monday said Hindi was not getting due prominence in various spheres of life despite 75% of the country’s population either speaking or understanding the language.
“We have not given the kind of respect we should have given to Hindi. Some so called intellectuals still continue to promote English,” he said in his address at a function here to commemorate ‘Hindi Divas’ . While underlining that he had nothing against any particular language, the home minister claimed Hindi was the only language that acted as a bridge between every part of the country.
“75 per cent people in the country either speak Hindi or understand Hindi. In every village of the country, people either speak their mother tongue or Hindi, even if little. But they don’t know English. Demand for making Hindi official language came first from non-Hindi speaking leaders like Bal Gangadhar Tilak,” he said.
Rajnathji, Why do you worry about Hindi? Being the Home Minister, please worry about India. Hindi is the spoken language of most of the North Indians and it will surely get it prominence. No language will die till the people love their mother tongue.

Hindi may be OK with north India. But its spread in south India is very limited. English is the link language between south Indians and other parts of the country. Hindi imposition will cause problems to south Indians
ppl must learn their mother tongue and Hindi so tat they can survive on any part of India without much difficulty
PM Modi has already said that Hindi, Chinese and some other language will get prominence in the future. Why is he repeating the same thing again and again. Sabr karo
Fauziya Abrar Khan
today every one wants English. so let Hindi be a matter of personal learning otherwise our people will lag in international competition. English is only ruling the roost these days. let’s not hamper our progress. fyi I belong to Hindi hinterland.
Rajnath has only one option. Ban English from India !

Dear Home Minister,
Why should Hindi get the prominence? Is it because a few Indian states speak or is it because you belong to a Hindi speaking state?
If you are hell bent on giving prominence to particular language, then let that be SANSKRIT. Please go through the pages of history and you will understand why??
If you don’t understand it, then TAMIL (I am not a Tamilian )language should be given prominence as there more Tamil speaking people in the world then Hindi.
Dear Home Minister, please focus on important areas rather than focusing on something that rarely matters to Common Man. Try to help PM in passing bills in houses.
Give education in Hindi and problem of english will be solved
People please respect our national language
No need for it. You the fanatic.
What was the situation before independence? Not even a single family used to speak Hindi in chennai.
