Chopper goes missing in Arunachal
ITANAGAR: A Pawan Hans chopper with three persons on board, including the deputy commissioner of Arunachal Pradesh’s Tirap district – Kamlesh Kumar Joshi – and two pilots, went missing at 11:15 am on Tuesday.
Members of the search and rescue team spotted a ‘helicopter-like object’ in the dense jungles near Deomali in Tirap, chief secretary Ramesh Negi said quoting Army sources. He added that security personnel were unable to reach the spot due to inclement weather and hostile terrain. The search was suspended for the day on Tuesday evening and was expected to resume early on Wednesday morning, district information and public relations officer D Bosai, who was part of the search team, said from Deomali. The weather was foggy, he said and added that villagers in Kalagaon and Lamlou villages of Tirap district heard a blast-like sound.
The Dauphin twin-engine helicopter took off from Naharlagun helipad near here at 8.40am. From there, it reached Khonsa, the headquarters of Tirap district, at 10.30am where Joshi boarded the chopper. It was on its way to Longding district when it lost contact with the Mohanbari ATC. “The last signal of the chopper was recorded near Deomali,” Negi added.
Quite strange that we are still searching and not aware of the status even today … need to extend help to the affected on priority in spite of the inclement weather and hostile ground realitiies.. Rakesh, FBd
The helicopters operating do not appear to be flight worthy. Also the pilots need training for operating in high altitude. Pvt companies be monitored by the DGCA.
Why the Pavan Hans still in use !
It seems that Pawan Hans does not maintain its helicopters properly. It is better to drive down, though it is time consuming, than to fly.
