No one felt upset about your Part 1 of Chinese Hospitality. It was just an observation and nothing more.

Coming to Part 2, I will relate about problems faced by vegetarians.A friend went to France in 1978.Being a Gujarati he carried some flat bread and snacks to survive for 21 days in France where he felt he would not find vegetarian food.Incidentally his bread and snacks mixed with the washing soap he was carrying. The food started smelling and was just not fit to be eaten.This friend returned home after 6 days.

1978年，一位朋友去法国。他是古吉拉特人，靠着带来的一些面包和点心，原本要在法国度过21天的。他觉得自己在法国找不到素食。

偶然地，他的面包和点心与随身携带的肥皂混到一起了。

面包和点心开始发着臭味，不宜进食了。

后来，那位朋友呆了6天就回来了。

Perhaps the word that I used wasn't correct. I should have said "unhappy". Your comment was not on my mind when I wrote this blog. Many other people had said the same thing that you had. Your comments and advise is invaluable to me. I respect the views of all those who read my blogs. I just felt after reading the comments that one should not generalize about a community's behavior pattern because it takes all sorts of people to make a community :). Feel sorry for your friend and am reminded of a similar incident where my brother in law's mother was quarantined at Heathrow airport on suspicion of TB. Her son who's is a doctor in England and whom she had gone to be with could not get her out for three days and when finally he managed to clear through the bureaucratic hurdles, she told him to get the return ticket and she came back without having a morsel in three days :))

为你朋友的遭遇感到遗憾。也让我想起了一起类似事件。

我姐夫的妈妈在希思罗机场被隔离。她在英国当医生的儿子，也就是她此次来的目的，花了3天把她弄了出来，当最终通过官僚障碍后，她叫儿子去买回程的机票，3天内没有吃一顿就回来了

Yes many of us Indians who are very strict vegetarians do find it very uncomfortable in eating in joints where non veg food is served. Its rare to get a pure veg joint in China, I suppose.

Thanks Vijay- It gives a good feeling when I think that there are people who look forward to meeting me. Vegetarians indeed can have a tough time in a country like China. My sister and my cousin could only come to see Shanghai because they were certain that they will have vegetarian food :)

Good Morning, Thanks Usha Ji for being the first one to read my blog. It is impossible for a foreigner to understand what a vegetarian feels about meat and meat products. All of us who go abroad sometimes come across such difficult situations.
