BEIJING: China has welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement that the government will make available electronic visas to all Chinese citizens. Chinese foreign ministry indicated it as considering possible relaxation in its visa laws but stopped short of committing itself to a similar gesture for Indian citizens.
“During his visit, PM Modi has announced issuance of e-visas for Chinese tourists. We welcome this move,” Hong Lei, Chinese foreign ministry spokesman said at the regular media briefing on Monday. Hong clarified China’s stand saying, “China is willing to make joint efforts with India under the Chinese laws and regulations so as to facilitate the exchanges of China and Indian people”. He did not explain if there will be any major changes in visa procedures.
Observers said Modi’s announcement was a personal gesture to deal with a major complaint of Chinese people who feel that tourism and business with India was being hampered due to cumbersome visa procedures.
Discussing the two dozen agreements signed during the Modi visit, Hong said, “We will implement important consensus reached by the two leaderships and elevate China-India relations to a new high”.

Its easy to get Chinas tourist Visa. Takes just 1 day with express service or 4 days regular. I dont know y this is rumuored that its dificult to get china tourist visa for indians. It was dificult for chinese to get indian tourist visa and its good modi has taken a decision. Too much was made by security agencies terming 1.3 billion ppl as a threat perception is absolute silly. Its great modi has over ruled such exaggerated thinking . Also we shud not forget that HK and Macau in China has VOA for Indians since long time back.

China must reciprocate India’s gesture by opening up its economy more and facilitating Indian businesses smoother entry into the Chinese market which currently is not so. Also China must repay India’s gesture by providing for e-visas for Indians and making their process of entry into China more easier. Else its words sounds hollow and will only demean its reputation.
