外文标题：India to buy 36 Rafale fighter jets from France as quickly as possible: PM Modi
NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday announced that India has requested France to give 36 Rafale fighter jets in 'fly-away condition' as quickly as possible.
The decision on Rafale jets was among the several agreements reached between the two countries after a meeting of Prime Minister Narendra Modi with French President Francois Hollande.
Calling France a valued friend, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said there is no such sphere where India and France are not cooperating.
Prime Minister heaped praise on France for standing with India on various issues.
"I'm grateful to France for their support for India's permanent membership of UN Security Council," PM Modi said.
Prime Minister thanked France for supporting his Make in India initiative.
Earlier, during the talks the two leaders discussed defence, nuclear issues, economy, cultural and educational ties.
President Francois Hollande, reading out the joint statement, said France will invest 2 billion euros in India.
France will also help India to develop smart cities and a high speed rail line between Delhi and Chandigarh.
With almost regularly coming news of daily IAF fighter jets crashing, and no purchse happening in last 10 years, Direct, off-the-shelf purchse of fighter jets is the need of hour... our Air force's strength has been reduced to almost 55% of what it was 15 years back.....
Why do we need to beg other countries for fighter aircraft .... when we can build our own advanced fighters based on detailed technical specifications already available in the Vedas, upanishads and other ancient hindu texts ?

We are still the market for the products of European industry and the source for raw materials and cheap labour;this is my takeaway from this news article.

Why so much importance being given to purchase of only 36 jets ? India needs lot more than 36 jets. What happened to Modi's "make in India" policy ? As long as India keeps buying from foreign countries, there will never be enough pressure on domestic industry to develop local arms industry.
This was a requirement of IAF in 2007 and did not provided yet. A serious security lapse from Govt. of India.
how about making the Rafale fighter jets in India ? whether technology will be transferred to us after its supply ?
