外文标题：32 years on, IAF to get Tejas fighters in March
NEW DELHI: Thirty-two years after the light combat aircraft (LCA) project was sanctioned, IAF will finally get its first home-grown Tejas fighter in March 2015. But before you pop the bubbly, consider this: the multi-role jet is now ready to fly in all-weather conditions but cannot yet fire long-range missiles as well as undergo mid-air refuelling to double its strike range.
The first Tejas will be delivered to IAF at Bangalore in its initial operational clearance (IOC) configuration, which basically means it’s fully airworthy now. But the fighter’s final operational clearance (FOC) to make it combat-ready — with integration of all weapons like guns, laser-guided bombs and BVR (beyond visual range) missiles as well capable of air-to-air refuelling — has once again been delayed.
The Tejas Mark-II, the fighter IAF really wants with more powerful engines for greater thrust and drag reduction, will start to come only by 2021-2022. With the first preliminary design review for the Mark-II version now over, the plan is to fly its first prototype by 2017 or so.
印度空军真正需要的是搭载更强劲引擎的Tejas Mark-II，该战机到2021-2022才会服役。随着Tejas Mark-II的初始设计结束，该计划目前是到2017年左右飞首架原型机。
“The first of IOC standard aircraft has been built and successfully completed its maiden flight on September 30 this year. This aircraft will be handed over to IAF by March 2015 after some upgrades,” defence minister Manohar Parrikar told Lok Sabha on Friday.

Defence must be opened to private sector like US.

Defence minister Manohar Parrikar should reorganise DRDO – this organisation has failed the nation badly. PM had already suggested to regroup DRDO –
now every thing getting speed up after new government in place.
Good News. We should be proud of this initial achievement

It is high time we should have our own engines.

How fast our defence acquisition system is ! Wonderful, marvelous ……waah waaah…. The operational life of MIG(flying cofin) is increased and pilots who fly these will pay price of their lives
China is developing its 5th generation fighter plane while India still struggles with its development of its 4th generation fighter plane. Too many old scientists around who drink tea and take too many naps.

China is doing nothing but the reverse engineering of the planes or other items it bought from Russia or any other country and then build their own weapons with that design. At least India is doing fine with its own design. Once they build this 4th generation, Our scientists will not take more time to build 5th or 6th generation planes.
Get rid of HAL and the DRDO! These government institutions are lumbering behemoths that are just too slow in developing vital weapons to specification and on time! Bring in the private sector! The private sector will do in one year what these behemoths do in ten years.
why our scientists and engineers who have completed their whole career in building this aircraft not been able to deliver. even today the main components are imported. are these guys so in competent. govt must make these people accountable and disciplinary action must be taken against them for having wasted country’s resources and time. all the sarkari babus must come out of this chalega type approach.
