外文标题：India relies on China for 90 per cent of drug raw materials
Imagine a situation where an Indian soldier's medical kit is running out of essential drugs on a battle front. This may sound like a figment of imagination, but given India's acute dependence on China for key ingredients (active pharma ingredients) for several essential drugs including several antibiotics, the prospect of such a scenario isn't all that remote. India depends heavily on imports — over 90% — from China for many key raw materials (mostly intermediates and some active pharma ingredients) that go into the making of at least 15-odd essential drugs, reckons a Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) report reviewed by ET.
"Any deterioration in relationship with China can potentially result in severe shortages in the supply of essential drugs to the country. Additionally, China could easily increase prices of some of these drugs where it enjoys virtual monopoly," said Bart Janssens, partner, BCG.
These drugs include the most commonly used painkiller such as paracetamol, Aspirin; antibiotics such as Amoxicillin and Ampicillin, Cephalexin, Cefaclor, Ciprofloxacin, Ofloxacin, Levofloxacin; first line diabetes drug Metformin; antacid Ranitidine.

this is sheer insane and stupidity. India which boasts of being number one in exporter or generic drugs doesn't have companies which produce the raw material.... what the hell these so called big companies are doing apart from minting money. Govt. should direct them to make these raw material in India than importing from China.
THEY SAY INDIA HAS FORMED THE HABIT OF TOTAL RELIANCE ON CHINESE PRODUCTS, IN OTHER WORDS INDIAN IS A SLAVE INDUSTRY OF CHINA'S FOR THE PAST 10YRS AND MORE CONGRESS GOVT.HAS ENCOURAGED THIS SLAVE TRADERS MENTALITY IN DRUGS,ELECTRONIC GOODS,CELLO PHONES,COMPUTERS AND MANY MORE INDUSTRIAL PRODUCT, WHICH HAS RESULTED IN HUGE TRADE BALANCES IN FAVOUR OF CHINA. MODI SHOULD CHANGE THIS FOR GOOD IF INDIA NEEDS TO BECOME A LEADING MANUFACTURER OF QUALITY GOODS FOR THE WORLD MARKET OF COMPATETIVE GOODS
