I think the gt builds these brand new villages and then ask people to move from their old villages to the new ones while taking over the old ones. Strange sy em but effective in China I suppose where people can't say no.

Yes, it's a bizarre sy em. You can't adopt such a sy em in many other countries even if you have the money to do it. On one hand the standard of living of these people will improve but at the same time they will be detached from their age old way of lives in villages. Essentially they are creating urban societies in rural areas.

there are fields around their houses, some of them are still farming.
the issue is younger generations are not willing to farm, and just put their lands go out of cultivation.
very few ppl would like to keep the traditional farming life. They are human beings, they don't want to suffer from hardship of farming just to let outsiders think: wow, wonderful, they are still kee their way of life, bravo!
