外文标题：Now, cars can zoom at 100kmph, bikes at 80
NEW DELHI: Now it's official. Cars can drive at a maximum speed of 100 kmph and motorcycles at 80 kmph. The road transport ministry has notified the revised speed limits. However, civic bodies and local and state police have the power to notify specific speed limits for municipal and local roads taking into account safety aspects.
It may sound strange, earlier there was no speed limit for cars at national level. Only the local police had set the norms.
Government officials said local authorities would fix the speed limit for vehicles within their areas as per the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act. "Obviously, a car or bike cannot be allowed at high speed in crowded or residential areas. So, local authorities including deputy commissioners, collectors and police will decide the speed limit for all categories of vehicles in every locality," a ministry official said.
The revision of speed limit comes after 25 years. TOI had first reported on August 2 that the road transport ministry has sought green signal from the law ministry to notify the fresh speed limits.
As per the notification, vehicles used for carrying nine or more passengers such as mini bus or buses can now ply at a maximum speed of 80 kmph while vehicles used for carrying not more than eight passengers like cars are allowed to run at the maximum speed of 100 kmph. The speed limit of goods vehicles has also been increased to 80 kmph.

More important - good roads and discipline - both are missing this is sure way to death
Now, cars can zoom at 100 kmph, bikes at 80 with more accidents due to unsafe road conditions with no traffic sense or traffic discipline seen all over India.Govt must come forward with strict traffic rules to avoid more accidents anf traffic jam.
This is a big blow to the enforcing force whose average income is sure to come down.

This will lead to more number of accidents for sure.

Under each limitation the road's feasibility should be marked with different colours. Long distances like Delhi Agra, Agra Bombay can be allowed 80km / H but 100 Km/H is not to be allowed as per international standards.
It is too early to set 100kmph before lane discipline, hard shoulder, emergency lane, lane for 2, 3 wheeler, truck lane, airbags as standard feature in all cars, compulsory seat belts, road signs etc. this may be done in hurry to get bribe from highway commuters to traffic policemen. The average speed of the trains in India itself not touched 100 so far!!!

Accidents happen due to not following of traffic rules and rash driving not due to speed.
Great! Now All we need is good roads and traffic abiding vehicles, and some pedestrian respect
Speed limit if different in some areas must be displayed properly.
To the point ()
We tend to drive at 100 when it was 60! Now we will try 140! We are Indians man!

Very true this is official but already were running at higher speed then 100 and 80'.
Whatever rule you take out, the local Police is gonna misuse it to collect bribes. Nowadays, they are making from smokers in Bangalore.
And our express trains travel at 60.
THIS IS GOOD METHOD OF MORE ACCIDENT AND MORE DEATHS SO THAT POPULATION CAN BE CONTROLLED. A NOVEL METHOD OF POPULATION CONTROL. ARE OUR ROADS AND TRAFFIC FIT FOR THIS SPEED ? STUPID!
with the change in govt the nation is also chaning fast thanks to modi ji
The rules don't insist that you must drive at maximum allowed speeds. It is the responsibility of the driver to judge the road and traffic conditions and then adjust speed accordingly. Germany has no speed limits yet a very low accident rate. What is needed is strict and proper driver training.

100 kmph is unsafe. 80kmph is ok.

In residential area and markets speed of vehicles should not more than 50Km/hr
Shows how shortsighted our babus are. Who can drive at these speeds. .not even trains. Avg speeds in city is between 10 and 20 kmph!! And the new fashion is to drive on the wrong side of the road to save time and 50ps of fuel. Cops just watch the drama.
Wow... that's great. those who purchase Ferarri and Lamborghini can sport their cars.
ha ha ha 100 you guys seems to have been just born now or turning your faces off reality ... these speeds are already been common in conjuncted areas n citizens r forces to run like dog on streets to even go to buy a packet of milk ... the real thing is we must a car set to max speed of 60 n can not drive more then it ....

Even the so called best, newly constructed roads in India are bumpy. Travelling more than 80Kmp is dangerous.
On Express roads , it is already a common sight that Cars are driven at 150 and above , and why not , What is the use of Pajero or Skoda , if you can't .
