Hats off to the genuine hard work and commitment to achieve goals irrespective of all odds.

The Pass that we dug tunnels across was Jawahar tunnel in 1960s after that I only see Rohtang tunnel (am not sure if there are any more) which was conceived in 1983, Announced by Atalji in 2003, work began in 2010, till June 2012 3.5km completed likely completion 2016 Don't get surprised if it gets extensions by 4 more years. So since 1983 to 2013 the net progress is say 5 kms leave the circumstances aside this is the pace at which we progress in four decades VS 500kms of road in desert in just 4 years. Is there any comparison? We fail faaaaar behind.
Now I leave the comparison of Qinghai–Tib railway to our Jammu Srinagar railway to you only.

1960年代开始,我们开始挖贾瓦哈隧道。后来我只看到1983年构想的罗唐关口隧道(Rohtang tunnel),由Atalji于2003年宣布,2010年开始动工,到2012年6月只挖了3.5公里,可能2016年完工。如果工期推迟4年,那么别意外。

也就是说,从1983年到2013年,进展只有比如说大约5公里。不考虑环境,我们在40年取得的速度对比中国500公里沙漠公路只用4年就修好。

这还用比吗?我们远远落后了。

I was of view that population density in china would be similar to us, but the area till now seems sparsely populated.

Seeing the beautiful and maintained roads and lanes in many international logs on BCMT I start wandering when we can get decent clean and clutter free roads and lanes in India .
A distant dream it seems.
